Ignoring smoke
Is there a setting for disable the smoke in game?
Too many players nowdays are unaffected by smoke screens and are able to hit weekspots in thick smoke. And no, there are too many to be guessed as "lucky" shots.

So if there is a setting, please let me know. I want the same advantage.

It's probably players on Ultra Low Quality settings, but even then I dont think that setting makes smoke invisible etc? Most people who smoke up seem to get killed easily in my opinion, because most players seem to not move after deploying the smoke screen eg, I've lost track of the amount of times I've knocked a tanks gun out and they have smoked up to fix but stayed in exactly the same position and I've killed them for it. I have even picked apart tanks with crit hits through smoke screens as I have got used to the layout of certain tanks etc...playing for 2+k hours pays off etc lol.

They could be spraying their MG into it and using that to tell where you are, but there is no option that disables smoke.

I pop tanks through smoke all the time. Often it was because the first shot to make them smoke was a mobility shot. However, many players start moving as they pop the smoke and continue to move on the same path making it incredibly easy to predict their location and just fire. If you don’t move one way then speed off in a different direction when the smoke is thicker, people are just going to predict your location.

Using that, if you consider a “lucky shot” to be any hit that kills you through smoke, I average about 90% lucky shot success when firing into smoke. Of the Hail Mary shots I make randomly firing into smoke without knowing much about the enemy location I have about the opposite success rate at like 10%. But a vast majority of the time I know enough about the enemy tank that the smoke is largely irrelevant.

Just to clarify, Im not talking about times you are stuck repairing behind smoke or when they find you with mg. This is totally fine.
Im talking about when you move behind smoke and some players can still see you as there were no smoke.
Even on the kill cam the smoke is not there. But that can be just a bug on the replay.

Sometimes I get lucky shots, and other times I see a player entering the smoke and I shoot ahead of them in the smoke. Those could be some reasons as to how it happens.

Remove the hit camera from RB and SB, and it will be better for the most part. Hit camera is a great Arcade like thing to have. And it should stay in Arcade.

Would suck to play tanks with long reloads

It’s actually not as hard as one thinks, you can go into settings and disable hit camera. You’ll actually find out that it is not that much of a game changer - even when using tanks with solid shot and stuff, you can just use logic where to shoot next and stuff.

Basically we all got soft and are now used to the hit camera, take it away and probably less than 10 battles without it you’ll be fine with it and perform almost to the same effectiveness (the less effective parts would be of course, the unrealistic stuff like homing shells into tanks where there is smoke, knowing specifically where every crew member is at one time (if they moved or not), etc. You know, the unrealstic stuff.

I feel like sim shouldn't get the hit camera but RB should, or maybe just with a read out of what you killed

I don’t think either sim or RB should have a hit camera, it’s not something that you would expect to see - in Realistic Battles.

However, you do get text as well when you shoot tanks (like the old days), this text should still be available in RB. In SB neither should be available.

Yeah that text is what I meant, but it's incredibly unreliable
Its not hard to shoot down a tank well covered in smoke, we can memorize its last position, try to guess where he goes or fire some mg bursts to help detecting targets direction.

There is no setting to disable smoke.

weakpoints...where not playing WoT this War Thunder. Don't get hit is best defence or be the shooter, while not being shot.

Smoke only stops a non-seasoned player killing you not a skilled player. As mentioned above by other players. It's not hard to know where a tank is in the middle of smoke bubble and if is still moving is the only time smoke will become an issue to shoot a tank in.

Smoke on water is pointless....you can see reflection of the tank

Smoke when immobile..... pointless the tank that shot you knows your postion and any one else who got there gun on you before the smoke was poped

Smoke has a use, I suggest you learn what that is.

Half the time you see smoke youll see 6 tanks fire into it. Everyone knows a tank is still there, if there isnt some other major threat why not just pop a shot into the smoke.
Had plenty of situations where ive rounded a corner, seen smoke and just shot and got a kill, then been called a hacker or ULQ abuser.

With the large amount of shells being fired in such small close quarter maps, odds are actually pretty high of lucky shots etc.
The size of your tank compared to the size of the smoke isnt all that different. Really limits the target area, and since at a given BR most tanks can pen eachother, with most tanks it isnt much of a stretch.

A tank like the jumbo, i havent had someone cupola or Mg port me through smoke, but panzers, tiger 1 etc, plenty of times been one shot in smoke. Tanks that are easier to 1 shot on most angles will die in smoke a lot.

If you are playing Arcade, the enemy marker somtimes stay so you can shoot thru the smoke.
