or should i stick to the is3? ive bought the is3 but havent tried it, it might just be 100k thrown away

Depends on your play style. The IS-4 is a tank designed for medium to long-range frontal engagements. The front armor and the gun are very good, but the tank is slow and quite prone to be flanked. Should you get it in complex urban environments such as the west side of the "Advance on the Rhine" map or even the small town in "Poland", your survival chances will lower significantly if an enemy with a more agile tank notices your position and flanks you without being detected.

Personally, I'd stick to the T-54s instead. At 7.7 many tanks have the ammo to deal with the armor on the IS-4, so it doesn't offer a lot in the ways of protection anymore. The gun, while it has a nuke shell that can obliberate most things it hits, has horrible turret traverse, bad gun depression and a very long reload. And of course the entire tank's mobility is really bad.

The T-54s are a better choice. At least for me they worked very well until the next good Russian lineup at 8.3 with the T-62, T-55A, Obj 906 and ZSU-23-4.
