expect the missing armor kit for the t72a in the next patch its in common the second patch after a new russian tank was introduced they add some new modifiction for it be it ammo armor or anything like that currently its a better T64A with the armor kit it could similar to the T64B just without the abillity to shoot rockets which is pretty much a T72AV.
If were lucky we will see The T72B which is similar to the T64B with the speeds of the T80 and new generation of ammunition missiles & apfsds, a big bonus would be the new Kontakt-5 ERA armor.
As for the T-72, I really wished they just did the T-72A without the obr. 1983 add-on, then did the T-72B obr. 1983 at 9.7 with better ammunition, and the AV upgrade, but it’s not really that big of a deal.
It does not have better mobility. The T-72B series, excluding the most modern ones, have 840 HP diesel engines, while the T-80B series has 1100 HP gas turbine engines.
As for ammunition, the T-72B is the same year as the T-64B in game. The thing is, all tanks get unrealistic ammunition at high tier, (which is stupid), and really the T-72B is probably no more likely to get 3BM26, 3BM32, or 3BM42 than the T-64B obr. 1984.
Along with Kontakt-5, that only applies to the obr. 1989, which I can say with confidence that we will not see with out the M1A1 and late Cold War, it is the best Cold War T-72. There were 3 main T-72Bs of the Cold War era, all different and uncombinable due to them being different tanks with different armour:
T-72B obr. 1984 — first one. It was decided to make Kontakt-1 ERA standard on the T-72B series, however, it began production right before this, so there should be examples without Kontakt-1. So if Gaijin wanted to be realistic, Kontakt-1 should be a low tier modification for the tank. Because K-1 was supposed to be standard, there is no ‘T-72BV’, just T-72B.
T-72B obr. 1985 — the more produced T-72B. It should have Kontakt-1 ERA stock and not a modification.
Both T-72Bs do not use Textolite for the UFP. Both UFPs are RHA steel, bu with small spaces in the armour. The 1984 has ~450mm of effective thickness against KEP, 480mm against CE, so it is theoretically weak to CE, but the Kontakt-1 standard counters this.
T-72B obr, 1989 — Started using NERA and stuff in the UFP, even thicker turret, etc, as mentioned, it should get Kontakt-5 stock.
T64AV ???
i dont want to see another T72A just for the armor addon i prefer The T72B as the following tank, the 10 year difference is already ingame its the upgrade pack for the T72A 1983 Era was applied in 1984. makes sense.
T64A
T64B
T80B
T72A
T72B
T72BU
I expect the T-72AV to be a mod to the current T-72A. However, I was giving my opinion that I thought it would have been logical for the current T-72A not to have either, and the successor T-72A to have the 1983 plate default, and the 1984 ERA as an upgrade.
The T-72BU is a prototype and might not see it for awhile due to it’s advnacement, however, there is literally no reason whatsoever the T-72BU would be in game as it is literally identical to the T-72B obr. 1989, with the exception of it’s equipment. Which Gaijin would have to model in FCS, wind and wind sensors, and more for the BU to be relevant.
Which, if we remain mostly Cold War, I think it should be called BU, which I hope is what happens. But if we do go full post war, then chances are it won’t be called T-72BU, but rather the name it entered service under in 1992, T-90.
yes the kit makes the most sense but the real question is what kind of T72B will they add to the game the one with access to K5 ERA or the one without it, it makes a really big difference from the look and from the protection.
the Kontakt-5 armor looks similar to T62-M1 turret armor but in single parts and all over the place hiding hull and turret ring aswell.
I think it is way more likely to see either the T-72B obr. 1984 or T-72B obr. 1985 first. Both should be represented obviously at some point, but either one is viable, the difference isn’t that great between the two.
