T72 vs T64, is T72 better in something?

Better armor and an ammo-rack behind the turret bustle, which would allow for more and safer stored ammo, compared to the T-64A's frontal stowage (the T-72A also has the frontal stowage, but I think the back storage is filled first).

T-72A has better armour, gets additional armour in the module section, starts with the better HE, the ammo is behind yet the reload is same as well as better turret armour, if you ask me, T-64A is the one at a disadvantage compared to the T-72A

T-72 also cannot shoot ATGMS and have no ERA protection.

I was comparing to T64B and I can see comapre to T64B... T72 has no hull armour so, T72 is significantly worse

The biggest advantage to the T-72 is ammo storage. The autoloader has both the charge and projectile stored horizontally, compared to the T-64A that stores the projectile horizontally but the charge vertically, making the T-64's very easy to ammo rack. The T-72 can also hold 7 more rounds then the T-64A, but, it can only hold 22 in the autoloader compared to the T-64's 28.

This does however result in the T-72 spreading its spare ammo around more then the T-64's. Most of it sitting at about waist height of the crew to the rear of the vehicle with a few in the fuel tanks and most charges in the rear fuel tank (though a few in the open).

Along with starting off with the better 3OF26 HE round, the T-72 offers better overall survivability over the T-64A in terms of turret protection, ammo storage, while offering the same ammo options (well, minus the weaker 3OF19 HE), similar mobility, the same reload speed. Some smaller extras also include a 12.7mm NSVT on top and smoke grenade launchers.

In the end, having the T-72A and T-64A are a nice mix, but I'd sugest the T-64A first as it then leads to the T-64B with improved armor as well as the BV mod and finaly the far faster T-80 with both having superior ammo choices.

Yes, and T-72A is lower BR wise than T-64B, so it is to be expected...

He's comparing to T-64B, but yeah T-64A has no atgms either. Not that you should use em.

The T-72A is superior or equal to the T-64A in every aspect.

Ie, it’s a BR compression issue.

the T-72 was a more cost effective MBT to field than the T-64s and T-80 this was also done for export reasons (note these export tanks weren't made to be cutting edge) and where it lacks some capability it makes up in numbers that could be fielded

get the T-72 before you get the T-64B, if you get the T-64B the T-72 will be obsulete,

T-72 is a T-64A with smoke grenades and a bunch of other upgrades, but it offers more frontal armour but its still as slow as the T-64A

T-64B has more armour than the T-64A and T-72A while being a little faster, it can fire ATGMs and gets ERA

T-80 is a faster T-64B with very little frontal armour, Gets ERA and gets ATGMs.

Basically if you must get one of them first, go with the T-64 route, if you get the T-72 you would still have to grind the T-64A and then the T-64B, and the T-64A with HE is a beast if you dont brawl.

T-64A<T-72A<T-64B/V<T-80B

The T-64B is slower than the 64A/72A, it has the same engine as the 64A, while being a couple tonnes heavier. But the heavy frontal armour is still totally worth it.

a pro of having the T-64A/72A is that they are lower br and less likely to get upteired to 10.0, meaning you could be facing the KPZ-70 spam
