Water, Oil, and Fuel.
What do each one of them do for your plane? What will happen if yoir plane has a leakage or overheats? Please answer this and thank you for the ones who do.

Water prevents overheating of the engine, keeping the WEP in your engine makes it go hotter along with the water and it will start taking damage, going from white to red, same for oil (I think?) leaks have no way of being fixed mid-air and will do the same damage as a overheated water or oil. Fuel is pretty self explanatory, can go kaboom if shot with APHE, but only in tanks.
Shoot an aircraft with a cannon or even a 12.7 in the right place and it will blow up beautifully

Water prevent overheating => prevent the engine component to heat up & distord under normal condition and cause an engine failure

Oil prevent engine damage over time from just running => gear grinding basicaly, without you wouldn't stay airborn very long before pistons & other components are completely worn out

So they both do the same : prevent engine failure provided the engine itself hasn't suffered damage (wich has 100% to kill it after some time)

While water leak can be countered by cutting the engine for it to cool down a bit mid air, oil leak will cause your engine to suffer damage when running until its dead once its depleted/overheated (as it loose its lubricating action when heated to the point of being extremely liquid)

Fuel has 2 effect on your plane (confirmed by gaijin in Q&A years ago) : performance & survivability

The more fuel you take the heavier you are, the slower you climb & accelerate.

But there are benefits :

An empty/near empty/half full fuel tank is infinitely more dangerous than one filled to the brim due to fuel gaz/oxygen mix being highly flammable & explosive, therefore a full tank decrease the chances to catch fire and/or to spontanously explode but won't help once you catched fire

The added weight will also benefit energy fighters, more speceficaly boom & zoomers as added weight = higher acceleration in a dive = more potential energy (provided you don't have extreme drag on your plane, looking at you Do-335 series)

Also consider the more fuel you bring in an aircraft, the easier and longer they burn. Plus they weigh the craft down.
Because of this, I don’t recommend really more than 30-45 minutes of fuel (or less), unless in Enduring Confrontation where an 1h+ is good and in tank battles 20 min is fine.

Wrong. It's the gas and fumes that are flammable , not the fuel it self.
Therefore a full tank is safer than, as foxtrot said above, empty, almost empty or half full tank.

You could just use that max fuel for reaching high altitudes and staying there for long as a backup plan. So if your teamates are down in fuel or if they need supplies and then realise a german nazi comes over to spoil their day. A fully-fueled fighter or a heavy fighter can atleast back them off and provide you extra safety.

Or if your ruthless with your engine and keeping the WEP on for all the times, Then having more fuel not only increases your durability in the air but also reduces the heat generated, Meaning the oil and water will not be as overheated as much as it can be if you use less fuel.

However, If you want performance and power in the earlier place to actually fly in-battle and destroy some other fighters or bombers as such. Then lowering your fuel is the only solution for that to make it lighter and firmer at turning rates or at climbing but resulting in much faster overheating and a risker engine statistics.

Don't think in-mind that you'll use the lowest fuel too. Thats a very bad idea for your durability and time spent. The engine will basically need more fuel to make sure the engine gets what it got and the fuel also acts like a cooling thing just like oil. In lower amount, the engine will slowly heat up alongside its oil and water heating rates since it needs more concentrated fuel like when it was full.

Which just means that the longer you use WEP while having low fuel. the oil and water will heat up twicely than it can heat up with the full tank, Causing your engine to not perform well with WEP and when outpassed the overheating issue on water or oil with low fuel causes the guages to blink. Meaning that now it'll effect the engine as well in similar way as it can effect it by leaking.

So, Higher fuel meaning longer time in air and safer engine durability even when assaulted But with little to no performance at all and harder to not only turn or manuever, but to go anywhere as well as fast as any other aircraft with lesser fuel.

Lower fuel meaning lighter aircraft, much faster speeds and greater climbing/turning rates but with the engine being risky enough to not survive any other journey when damaged. And with lower fuel meaning lesser time spent and with some overheating issues as well if you stressed the engine too much.
