As for the OP's question, why would Gajin make it Switch compatible?
alot of people play the switch. Supposedly for fiscal year 2017, 17.8 million switches were sold. Clearly not as many as there are pcs that can run WT. But its still an untapped market. One thats worth the dev trouble, thats the better question
PC masterrace.
They explicity said they weren't going to do development on the Switch. Whether or not that changes in the future, who knows.
"Lastly, game industry support for Nintendo’s Switch console is growing each month thanks to its commercial success. Would a War Thunder port be feasible from a technical standpoint and if so, have you looked into it?
Answer
"Nintendo Switch is an interesting platform, and porting our engine there is technically possible. We have just recently got SDK/devkits but we don’t have any immediate WT launch plans for this platform."
Sorry OP, for now it looks like it's not coming to the switch, tho maybe in the future

what a helpful comment.
But seriously: it couldn't run WT, it's too large and requires a decent PC at best so unless you want you Switch BSOD'ing all the time then no.
although it may come in the future, which would be pretty cool
