What is the best B-29 payload for base bombing in sim?
The 40x 500lb bombs total 20,000 lbs worth of bombs, the 18x 1000lb bombs are worth 18,000lbs total and the 8x 2,000lb bombs are worth 16,000lbs total.

With this said wouldn't the 40x 500lb bombs be the best? Or do the 1k and or 2k do more damage overall?

the 2000lb bombs are best as they hold more explosives in them, if you had 2 50kg bombs and 1 100kg bomb the 100kg bomb would be better as the weight is more due to the explosives and less from the metal and other ♥♥♥♥ they put in bombs.

this^ is a decent rule of thumb but really depends on the individual bombs, heres a spreadsheet:

do a bit of maths and work out which payload has the highest damage value, it sometimes also pays to take slightly less if for example your larger bombs almost kill a base but require you to waste another large bomb overkilling it, wheras smaller bombs may have less payload but you also waste less overkilling individual bases so get more actual damage

I did the math on the bombs. And I asked some people in some simulator matches I was in...

Here is the total explosive mass of each payload option. (Exluding the 20x 500lb of course.)
500lb = 4752

1000lb = 4327

2000lb = 4284.8

The 500lb bombs still have the most amount of total explosive mass. Yet when I asked in my sim match which was best I got a couple replies and they both said that the 2,000lb bombs were the best... So now I am really confused.

another factor worth considering, fewer larger bombs allow for more accurate drops as you only have to release a couple of bombs perfectly on target rather than lay down multiple smaller bombs across the target. its easy to waste smaller bombs if you are traveling fast enough that your last bomb misses, or you have to hit bomb release 5 times but in your haste to avoid overshooting hit it 6 times, or because you are under fire and need to manouver rather than spend more time aiming bombs etc.

I have an option bound- I can't remember the name of it. But it dumps all 40 bombs very, very quickly. And an airfield is a pretty big target so it's easy to hit. It also dumps the bombs so quick I can get all 40 onto one of the little bases. It's an option to look into if you don't know about it.

With that said, I still don't see why people prefer the 2k lb bombs. :mathematical:

im aware of it but as i said in my earlier post you get more damage on target if you use precisely the right amount of smaller bombs on a base rather than waste the damage potential of a 2000lb bomb finishing off the last sliver. dropping your entire payload in one isnt the problem as you said, its dropping exactly the right ammount of bombs so you can move on to the next base

you have to consider you are often dropping under adverse circumstances, because you are going to get in situations where you are intercepted aproaching the target, have a wing damaged so your flight isnt stable, are in a dive at near rip speeds and still need to hit that little base several thousand meters down, which would you prefer? only having to drop two 2000lbers perfectly, having to drop eight 500lbers in the hopes of conserving payload to get another base/airfield, or just spamming your payload and wasting potential damage if you could reach another base/airfield

That's true. I should have also specified that what I am talking about is AF bombing. I just want to know what does the absolute most amount of damage. Not what would be better if I was under fire or suffering damage.
TK421 Oct 20, 2018 @ 4:02pm
With my b29 and 40 - 500 lbs I can take out all 3 bases and still have some left over for the AF.
Its really depends how many bombers are on your team and what you are going to drop on, as to what payload you actually want.
Fanthomas Oct 20, 2018 @ 4:30pm
You might aswell grab the 2000lbs bombs, since you'll be broke in a few matches anyways when flying the b29 :emofdr:
Arceal Oct 20, 2018 @ 5:50pm
I don't fly the B29 or any bomber in RB. It's completely pointless. There is absolutely no reason to take a bomber in a match where you are marked on everyones screen so some wannabe "aces" power-climb and gang up on you with some no-skill instructor fueled controls.

However, in SB, they are absolute research and money farms. I played one match with a B-17E/L in a EC-SB @ 6.7-9.3, and at the end of the two and a half hour match, I had 300,000 research points. And I gained 250k lions. (After the repair costs.)
