M46 or M26E1 and why?
I've gotten tired of the repair costs of the T34 and M26. I find myself getting flanked a lot, or being killed from across the map as I try to get somewhere. Frequently use all three tanks I'm allowed. I've got an all BR 6.7 line up (mostly determined by the desire to play the T92) and I've recently replaced the T34 with the T29. The M26E1s has about half the cost in repairs, requires no grind (just GE) and appears to have a slightly better gun. The M46 is cheaper to buy and repair, but comes with a BR of 7.0. Seems to be basically the same tank, but faster.

I'm a little tired of seeing BR 7.7 tanks in my battles and am somewhat worried of seeing BR 8.0 if I choose the M46.

Thoughts?

The M46 has a HEAT-FS round. That will kill any tank it goes up against. Your goal at the top tier BR levels should always be having the superior position, situational awareness, and map knowledge. Armor means almost nothing at the higher tiers other than a feel good measure of survivability.

M26E1 .At 6.7 you will always get uptiered to 7.3 or 7.7 matches nonstop. In the long term , the tank could be more usefull, the battlerating is lower , so it means you will face less skilled players and your armor will be more reliable , since you will face lower oponents , at that BR it has decent ammo , if you pen with APHE , 90% of the time its bye bye to your enemy , with M46 you wount have that luck since HEAT-FS has horrible post penetration damage, also your shells will be cheaper and you will use them less , since you will really need 1-2shots for a kill but with M46 you sometimes need 5 shots for a tank kill. In over all , M26E1 is easyer tank to use and will bring you much more SL/RP

For grinding I'd say go for the m46 since it is rank 5. The M26E1 looks like fun and it's APHE round nukes everything, for fun the M26E1, for grinding, the m46

Uptiers to 8.7 really don't matter unless you are fighting the russians, Everyone has no armor at 8.7 and its really easy to get kills. For those russian tanks a Heatfs to the right/left of the barrel will usually get the turret crew and the breech

What are you smoking people :D M46 can be uptiered max to 8.0, the M26E1 max to 7.7

the gun on the M26E1 is excellent and allows you to take on foes frontally with the excellent american 90mm APCBC shell, whereas the M46 has to rely on flanking tactics to use it's APCBC shell effectively, or mediocre HEAT for frontal shots.

I personally love my M26E1, but your opinion might differ. drive the T26E1-1 super pershing for a bit and see wether or not you like the gun. the M26E1 is basically a faster reloading(I think) superpershing without the useless boiler plates (in game atleast) weighing down a tank with an already underpowered engine for it's weight ratio.

Thank for your input. After the kids and grand kids come today, I'll try to make a decision. I checked and there are only a few tanks at 8.0. One of them is the Maus. Need to cogitate on it for a while.

nah it wont
m46 HEATFS have 10% chance of killing in 1 shot
that ammo is just to shot at a turret and kill crew member mainly the gunner or loader then load APCBC and take a side shot

People rarelly drive Maus , because MAUS face much greater enemies which make its armor not relavant. Most foes you will face will be Leopard 1(which is no problem for you , one shot frontally) and T-54(almost impossible to penetrate frontally , need shot trap) but i gues you could manage

I finally decided on the M46. Took both out on the shooting range and decided that the M46's significantly better top speed and significantly faster reload were worth the extra .3 BR. I'm not usually in the top scorers anyway yet, and the reduced cost for repair will help. Still trying to 'get gud'.

Thank you all for your input.
