The mk.1 is good if you enjoy sitting behind planes and you plan to take them down by shooting so much lead into them they become too heavy to fly.

The mk.24 is probably the first and only Spitfire that can out perform the 109. A skilled 109 pilot will always outfly a skilled Spitfire pilot, except with the Mk. 24

um no, the spit is the 109's most dangerous opponent, past the first couple they speed up more, past the F mk9 they are on par with the 109 but can still outturn one at any and every time below mid-high speed.
by the time you hit the F mk 16, LF and the latewars the spitfire has simply made the 109 irrelevant

spitfire LF MK 9 any version is the best bang for your buck, simply insane plane to fly

How about this. Go fly and see for yourself. Anything we say here is nothing more but encouragement while you should be the one experimenting with it out there since you asked.

That said, good enough.

Of course there's better aircraft. It really just depends on what you like and are good with. The Spitfires are generally just very user friendly since they can do everything well.

Looked like a whole lot of luck to me. Not very often you're going to take that much damage in a Spitfire

each nation has their own traits and playstyle, mastering of which takes time and experimentation.
overall it depends what you want, for pure speed the US, GER and RU trees have excellent options while on the other scale planes like the A7M provide a great balance between speed, agility and dogfighting characteristics

one of the main issues of the spitfire is its heavy lockup in early-mid models past 400km/h ias
