when you damage a tank the damage siluette will tell you where the enemy ammo racks are. same with pressing 'O':
https://warthunder.com/upload/image/!%202015%20NEWS/April/Sherman/shot%202015_04_08%2017_57_32.jpg
if you shoot those ammunition racks, the enemy will likely die in a single shot. until you learn all the enemy tank layout, shoot their gunner side so you can see where to shoot next to kill.
or you can refer to the tank wiki for most tanks: https://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=T-54_mod._1949#Ammo_racks
also, at the beginning you have another disadvantage: crew experience. expect enemy to reload faster, repair faster and when one of their crew member dies they get replaced faster too
remember to upgrade the crew and buy the qualification for them! https://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=Category:Crew_skills
