Now for the T92 you should be good to go with researching it with the M24 Chaffee since that's a tier 3 and the T92 is a tier 4. Not to say you can't use your M4A1 Sherman, but you won't get as much research points (RP). I recommend you try and go for some of the late war 76mm Shermans, they have higher velocity guns and will help you against some of the Tigers you may face down the road. Another one to consider is the M18 Hellcat, very speed, tinfoil armor, but a good gun. I also really like the M36. It's like the M10, but better turret traverse as well as the good ol 90mm gun. There's also the M4A3E2 Jumbo, very tough nut to crack. Just a few suggestions for what to go for.
The US tree isn't the easiest to play against some of the contemporary Soviet and German tanks, but for me it got a lot better in tier 3 with the 76mm Shermans and tier 4 with the M36 (M4A3 and M36 are an excellent combo at 5.7), as well as of course with the T34.
Either way, I wish you luck in your quest for the T34, I'm currently trying to get the M60, as there's something extremely appealing about it to me. Oh and by the way, if you stick with the US tree, definitely get the M103, that thing is a force to be reckoned with, especially against those pesky T-54s.
PS: Is that The Inspector in your profile picture? I loved that show along with the Pink Panther cartoons!
T34 and M26 if you cant.
Some people like to dabble with Ontos but it takes some practice learning to aim with it.
If you have the money, the T29, Super Hellcat, T28, and T114 are all good tanks that you can buy that will complement the T92 as a line-up once you get it.
In terms of main-tree US tanks, the T34 and M56 are the other 6.7 competent vehicles that go well with the T92's capabilities. The Super Pershing just isn't at a fitting BR, and the Ontos will take some time getting used to.
Warning, though, that APDS is very lackluster in terms of post-pen damage, but at least you will pen. It also gets HEATFS, but that also has underwhelming damage if you don't hit an ammo rack.
I found your story very fascinating, and I am glad that you are choosing to enjoy this game over choosing to bear the grind, even though you techinically ARE grinding. In terms of fun tanks to play in the US tree, you definitely chose well with the M22. People will take it even in 9.0 BR games considering how fast it accelerates + how small it is. Buy a talisman for it, and watch the RP come in for Tier 3 tanks.
The M22 will be inefficient to grind Tier 4 tanks, unfortunately. I would advise you to keep playing the M24 Chaffee and work your way to the M18. Both are similar playstyles, but of course are at a higher BR and will need to contend with bigger competition. Buying a talisman for them will net you an easier time researching the T92. However, the best tank to grind the T92 would be the M56 before it on the tree. It gets a +10% RP boost towards the T92. That + a talisman on it is the most optimal way to get you to the T92, but maybe not the most fun, (I can say that the small profile of the M56 is very reminiscent of the M22).
If you like the M24, put a talisman on it. Definitely consider getting the M18 and putting a talisman on it too. These tanks all play similarily, and will help you to learn how to play the T92. You may feel somewhat disappointed with the stock T92, but I assure you that an upgraded T92 is very fun to play, and its low profile allows for some sneaky playstyles.
I've already ground out the tier 3 light, medium and heavy tanks. I'm only using the M24 because I was hoping it would scoot around like the M22. A little too slow for what I use the m22 for.
I've liked the opponents that I have generally faced (with a few exceptions - T-34 and KV-1), and I'm really not looking forward to re-equipping another tank. I'll probably take the final tier 3 Sherman and the final heavy Sherman and work through those. Not too interested in a tier 3 premium, at least not yet. I'll have to think about that as I really do hate the grind to get your tank up to spec. Might be cheaper to quick grind tank components with GE than to buy premium. Haven't studied that angle yet.
I'm thinking of working the heavy tank leg, at least through the m-103, in case I eventually want to try the MBT70 or the Abrams. Not particularly interested in any American lights after the T-92.
Question for anyone: The T-114 lists incredible penetration through 500 yards. Is it any good at longer ranges?
This 'Mark of Distinction' is an interesting RP sink. I guess it is automatic with this tier? Maybe with premium tanks?
I'm finding the artillery option of light and medium tanks particularly useful. Maybe I'll rethink that heavy tank route. Then again maybe not. The T-29 looks like a good tier 4 medium. Maybe I will work through a heavy after all for my third slot.
I believe the Mark of Distinction merely allows you to put a total of 4 decals onto that vehicle, (a feature otherwise restricted to players with a Premium account). Purely cosmetic, but it's another feature that encourages the use of that vehicle. It is exclusive for all Premium vehicles.
Artillery has its uses, but sometimes you do need the armor values that heavy tanks offer in order to push an objective. Cannot hurt to have a diverse line-up of light, medium, and heavy tanks. AA vehicles are another class of vehicle that allows a player to fight back any planes and obliterate any light vehicles + some medium tanks, all at a cheap SP cost.
Light vehicles also come with a researchable Scouting mechanic which allows players to mark enemies to be destroyed, all the while gaining points for their destruction, (comparable to an Enemy Kill Assist), and helps the player spawn in a plane. Simply another feature that encourages the use of a diverse line-up. The T92 also has this mechanic.
Slid off a bridge and landed sideways in the water once. Some poor soul took pity on me and finally got me righted. Went on to get 3 kills late in the game, one a poor LVT that was upside down. Went through half the game sideways in the water, nearly under a bridge.
