Suggested american tier 4 tank line up?
Hi,

I joined a few weeks ago and am working through the American tank tree. My goal is the T-92. I think it has a current BR of 6.7. What other 2 tanks would complement it. Thinking 1 light (T-92), and looking for a medium and perhaps a heavy. A premium tank is an OK suggestion.

I'm currently farming XP and credits with a M-22, M24 and the M4A1. I think the M24 and the M4A1 both have a BR of 3.3 with the M22 a BR of 1.7. I've chosen to stop here and farm with these rather than waste research on tanks I will leave as soon as possible. The competition is frequesntly brutal, especially with my garage, but I want to be well versed in tactics when I eventually get to where I want to be.

Why the T-92? When I was younger, I had an older cousin who was a good modeler. He speciallized in airplanes and build a beautiful Spad, about 1/18 scale. He also built a beautiful M-47 (at the time, that was our current tank) about 1/25 scale and then the most incredible tank I could conceive of, a T-92 at about 1-18 scale.

After a few years I became a modeler too. Mostly cars and tanks. Monogram had a series of 1/35 tanks that had tracks that would move. You had to be careful to grease the bogie wheels, and idler wheels, (Vaseline or hair gel usually) and then very carefully glue on the keeper caps so that the bogies would still rotate. Next you had to put the 2 pins from the one end of the track into the corresponding end and use a hot knife or scewdriver to flatten the pins to keep the flexible plastic track on the model. I was a paperboy, so the $1.00 price of these models was reasonably within reach.

Then we created our own version of War Thunder where someone would take their model out into an area of the yard and carefully hide it. The seeker would get on his hands and knees and roll his model through the yard , looking for where the other model tank was hidden. If the seeker went in front of where the cannon was pointed, the one with the hidden tank would yell "Bang, bang" indicating that the seeker was dead. If the seeker figured out where the other model was hidden, they would take their tank around by a way that would not cross the aiming path of the hidden tank till they would declare "Bang, bang" themselves, having shot the hidden tank fron the side, or rear.

There were no computers yet. I think the Space race was just getting under way.

Any way, much time has passed under the bridge. Went off to school, got married, had a career and raised 5 kids that are now out of the house. A couple of years ago I decided (after watching my kids grow up with computer and console gaming, that computer gaming would be a decent timekiller once I retired. I like golf, but it's expensive and I prefer doing it with someone I know. Counting down the years till I can stop working full time.

I started with Dreadnought, giant space ships shooting each other. Next came Fractured Space, even larger space ships shooting each other, but also a MOBA. Then I happened upon an online article about the T-92 and remembered my first exposure to it, all those many years ago.

A check on availability proved that both WoT and WT had it available, but the one in WT was the more desirable model (to me anyway). A very brief (one battle) exposure to WoT before I had any gaming experience, left me more willing to try WT.

Back to the point, I'm in this game to have fun. I like winning, but sometimes you can still have fun even when you lose. I'm already in the US camp and they don't have the best tanks inside this game, and I accept that. Still I would like to have a decent chance to win with the tanks I have in my garage. So, what are your suggestions and why?

Just to let you know, the M4A1 and M24 and M22 aren't going to be good for researching 6.7 stuff. There's a research cap for each tier. So if you try to research a tier 4 with a tier 2, it won't be as effective as if you used a tier 3 to research a tier 4. Always wanna use vehicles 1 tier below or above to research the one you're going for. However, as for 6.7 you have a few options. One is the T34, and this isn't the Russian one, this one is glorious, it has what's basically a 120mm M1 anti aircraft gun strapped to a big ol tank chassis, it fires a solid AP shell with 230 something millimeters of penetration, and has very good armor. You also got the T26E1-1, something of a Frankenstein using armor from a Panzer V Panther if I recall correctly, along with an experimental long 90mm gun.

Now for the T92 you should be good to go with researching it with the M24 Chaffee since that's a tier 3 and the T92 is a tier 4. Not to say you can't use your M4A1 Sherman, but you won't get as much research points (RP). I recommend you try and go for some of the late war 76mm Shermans, they have higher velocity guns and will help you against some of the Tigers you may face down the road. Another one to consider is the M18 Hellcat, very speed, tinfoil armor, but a good gun. I also really like the M36. It's like the M10, but better turret traverse as well as the good ol 90mm gun. There's also the M4A3E2 Jumbo, very tough nut to crack. Just a few suggestions for what to go for.

The US tree isn't the easiest to play against some of the contemporary Soviet and German tanks, but for me it got a lot better in tier 3 with the 76mm Shermans and tier 4 with the M36 (M4A3 and M36 are an excellent combo at 5.7), as well as of course with the T34.

Either way, I wish you luck in your quest for the T34, I'm currently trying to get the M60, as there's something extremely appealing about it to me. Oh and by the way, if you stick with the US tree, definitely get the M103, that thing is a force to be reckoned with, especially against those pesky T-54s.

PS: Is that The Inspector in your profile picture? I loved that show along with the Pink Panther cartoons!

T29 and T114 if you can afford them, way better then anything else around that BR.
T34 and M26 if you cant.
Some people like to dabble with Ontos but it takes some practice learning to aim with it.
The US has a very competent 6.7 line-up, along with a solid 6.3 line-up if you like being down-tiered.

If you have the money, the T29, Super Hellcat, T28, and T114 are all good tanks that you can buy that will complement the T92 as a line-up once you get it.

In terms of main-tree US tanks, the T34 and M56 are the other 6.7 competent vehicles that go well with the T92's capabilities. The Super Pershing just isn't at a fitting BR, and the Ontos will take some time getting used to.

Warning, though, that APDS is very lackluster in terms of post-pen damage, but at least you will pen. It also gets HEATFS, but that also has underwhelming damage if you don't hit an ammo rack.

I found your story very fascinating, and I am glad that you are choosing to enjoy this game over choosing to bear the grind, even though you techinically ARE grinding. In terms of fun tanks to play in the US tree, you definitely chose well with the M22. People will take it even in 9.0 BR games considering how fast it accelerates + how small it is. Buy a talisman for it, and watch the RP come in for Tier 3 tanks.

The M22 will be inefficient to grind Tier 4 tanks, unfortunately. I would advise you to keep playing the M24 Chaffee and work your way to the M18. Both are similar playstyles, but of course are at a higher BR and will need to contend with bigger competition. Buying a talisman for them will net you an easier time researching the T92. However, the best tank to grind the T92 would be the M56 before it on the tree. It gets a +10% RP boost towards the T92. That + a talisman on it is the most optimal way to get you to the T92, but maybe not the most fun, (I can say that the small profile of the M56 is very reminiscent of the M22).

If you like the M24, put a talisman on it. Definitely consider getting the M18 and putting a talisman on it too. These tanks all play similarily, and will help you to learn how to play the T92. You may feel somewhat disappointed with the stock T92, but I assure you that an upgraded T92 is very fun to play, and its low profile allows for some sneaky playstyles.

To add to this, you get a research bonus if you use the vehicle just above the one you are researching.
Thank you Gentlemen (and Ladies?)

I've already ground out the tier 3 light, medium and heavy tanks. I'm only using the M24 because I was hoping it would scoot around like the M22. A little too slow for what I use the m22 for.

I've liked the opponents that I have generally faced (with a few exceptions - T-34 and KV-1), and I'm really not looking forward to re-equipping another tank. I'll probably take the final tier 3 Sherman and the final heavy Sherman and work through those. Not too interested in a tier 3 premium, at least not yet. I'll have to think about that as I really do hate the grind to get your tank up to spec. Might be cheaper to quick grind tank components with GE than to buy premium. Haven't studied that angle yet.

I'm thinking of working the heavy tank leg, at least through the m-103, in case I eventually want to try the MBT70 or the Abrams. Not particularly interested in any American lights after the T-92.

Question for anyone: The T-114 lists incredible penetration through 500 yards. Is it any good at longer ranges?

It's very good as far as penetration, but one of the problems is the muzzle velocity. You have to aim pretty high to ensure a hit at higher ranges, which makes it awkward to use since it has light armor and isn't good for close range but the muzzle velocity makes it weird for long range too. Though since it is a tier 5, that thing can get you the Abrams and all of tier 6.
After a little research, I decided to get the Cobra King and the T-20. The Cobra King is the jumbo Sherman I would have other wise played and the T-20 is a squat version of the 76mm Sherman, that I would otherwise have played. Research points pile up like you guys said they would, even with my mediocre play.

This 'Mark of Distinction' is an interesting RP sink. I guess it is automatic with this tier? Maybe with premium tanks?

I'm finding the artillery option of light and medium tanks particularly useful. Maybe I'll rethink that heavy tank route. Then again maybe not. The T-29 looks like a good tier 4 medium. Maybe I will work through a heavy after all for my third slot.

I believe the Mark of Distinction merely allows you to put a total of 4 decals onto that vehicle, (a feature otherwise restricted to players with a Premium account). Purely cosmetic, but it's another feature that encourages the use of that vehicle. It is exclusive for all Premium vehicles.

Artillery has its uses, but sometimes you do need the armor values that heavy tanks offer in order to push an objective. Cannot hurt to have a diverse line-up of light, medium, and heavy tanks. AA vehicles are another class of vehicle that allows a player to fight back any planes and obliterate any light vehicles + some medium tanks, all at a cheap SP cost.

Light vehicles also come with a researchable Scouting mechanic which allows players to mark enemies to be destroyed, all the while gaining points for their destruction, (comparable to an Enemy Kill Assist), and helps the player spawn in a plane. Simply another feature that encourages the use of a diverse line-up. The T92 also has this mechanic.
iaoue1 did you play the map Stalingrad today, in the last 2 hours? I remember seeing an M22 rush into C point and trying to flank, and I remembered that's the first time in 4.0 I saw an M22. Was that you?
No, that wasn't me. I'm trying to use the M24 for the same reasons I used the M22 for. Speed is disappointing in the M24 after driving the M22 around. The M22 was a lot of fun, died easily, but sure was fun. I rolled it off an embankment once and landed on my tracks. Drove away.

Slid off a bridge and landed sideways in the water once. Some poor soul took pity on me and finally got me righted. Went on to get 3 kills late in the game, one a poor LVT that was upside down. Went through half the game sideways in the water, nearly under a bridge.
