Will Silent Thunder return ever ?
It was a really cool and a refreshing experience to be playing hide and seek under the waves. Will it come back or was this just for april fools ?

Might end up having submarines in naval forces one day.
i doubt it, what defenses do ships have against subs ?
depth charges, torpedoes, sonar, and if we are continueing on the speculative bent support from helecopters with dip sonar and torpedoes, bombers magnetic detectors and depth charges.... subs are ambush hunters, once the enemy knows they are present there isnt much they can do but run and hide

still, the submarine can be over a kilometre away from where it's torpedo destroyed a ship. So finding and destroying even one will have to be a coordinated team effort all the while one player gets loads of kills.
torpedoes arnt exclusive to subs mate, subs are the ones that want to remain undetected so once surface ships know they are there there is no reason for them not to go ham on active sonar and airborn detection looking for large magnetic objects...

im talking about the guided torpedoes, you know the ones you direct yourself.
again, i dont know why you think torpedoes are limmited to subs... frigates, destroyers and light crusiers can all be outfitted for anti-submarine-warfare and running into one is essentially a subs worst nightmare. if they get patrol aircraft in support the best the sub can hope for is escaping alive

They are probably going to add in the WWII U-boats at best. And they can be sunk by destroyers, mortars and dive bombers.

Would be pretty neat though if gaijin added them for what ever reason along side the m6a1 and allowed the sub to be a spawn point for the plane
planes, tanks, some day battle ships and subs:steamhappy:

ships could also have hedgehogs or deploy mines to combat submarines

that still needs the sub to be relatively close, the subs launch long range torpedos

ASW Mortars, MAD boom aircraft, the fact that you can usually see a submarine if it is around 50-100 foot.

The list goes on. The fact is also it'd take a long time to reload a torpedo compared to a shell, and that torpedoes can be awfully unreliable. Not to mention that they require good aim as any movement of the enemy ship can lead to having the torpedo miss.

Cavitation is another thing, as well as the fact that if they add helo's it can lead to them adding dips as well.

Not so overpowered, more underpowered. It'll more likely be a objective "Distract the enemy long enough to allow the submarines to reach the convoy" or "Destroy enemy submarines". That is if they decide to add them in.

If we do see playable ones though, it'll be early/mid cold war submarines like the Sturgeons, Churchills, Valients and Threshers/Permit classes. Mark 37's would make it so PVP is possible between the submarines and then make it so ships can detect them pretty easily if a player decides to role support. Also, no they won't be snipers, submarines are stealthy - thus they're better off getting to around 7-3 NM to engage surface ships with ASuW torpedoes that don't have guidence such as the Mk 16. I doubt they'd introduce torpedoes with guidence that can be used for both ASW and ASuW. Those would be way to OP.

Dont get why not, old topics topics can still be relevant. It most likely will come.

I havent looked but i doubt one can find a tab for flying saucer controls..

Didn't saucers and subs get recycled into helo controls?
