it should then work using default sounds.

If you failed to copy the modification files into there own directory \sound\mod and copied them over the default sounds \sound, you could try using the launcher to check files and repair damaged ones, and worst case, you could delete the sound directory (approx 2.57gb) and then have the launcher repair the deleted files.
