Why bother with BMP-2?
I mean, the missiles on it are nice. I know, because I've got the same missiles on the BMP-1P at 0.7 lower BR. Plus a cannon throwing HEAT that can frontally penetrate a Jagdtiger (which I did in my last match), which the -2 trades in for an autocannon that maxes out at 100mm penetration.

All the stats I'm thinking to compare, the BMP-1P seems to be even or better. Is the -2 actually worth the rank somehow?

are BMP-1 even worth farming or should i just farm IS-3? Or maybe t-44-100 and t-54?

It's one of the best vehicles at that BR... The missiles are THAT good, and the 30mm is godlike and can swat down aircraft, helicopters, and tanks alike.

The 30mm chews through the side armor of high rank tanks and makes killing other light vehicles a breeze. Plus the stabilizer makes it possible to stay mobile and flank enemies much faster than you can with the BMP-1P. Finally, the 30mm is excellent at killing planes and early helicopters, what I find all too often strafing my BMP-1 to death, giving the BMP-2 multi-role capability as a frontline AA piece, scout tank and ATGM carrier.

Overall, the BMP-2 trades effectiveness in a frontal engagement for a weapon that is better for killing planes and flanking enemies. Given that the BMP is a light vehicle that isn't suited for head-on engagements in the first place, the 30mm provides a tool that is more effective for its role as a flanker, while still retaining the missile that can kill anything it sees frontally.

It's ability to pull emergency AA duty and its ATGMs are what make it a good all around ground forces vehicle. I know some people run both BMPs in the same lineup because they like them that much.

Side shots are what you should be going for in the BMP-2 if you can't hit something with an ATGM.

BMP-2, aircraft, leopards, italian leopard look-a-like tanks and some others gets pounded so easy with BMP-2. From time to time i have sneaked behind enemy lines with it and often ended up confronting 2-3 leopards at a time, where i was the one walking away. Dont use it to storm the front lines. Flank with it, then it can really do some massive damage if you catch those who aint prepared :)

You have to understand the role of the BMP. The BMP is in the same category as the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. They are armor for Infantryman. To effectively use these vehicles, you have to deploy them to fight indirectly against tanks as they are not designed for head-on, rank-and-file fighting. When I was in the Mechanized Infantry, we used "scoot-pop-hide-move" tactics to be effective against OPFOR armor. If you understand the terrain well where there is a lot of cover and concealment (especially in the simulator battles where they are the most effective), you will be a thorn in the opposing team's side given its height, small turret and agility. Overall, let the MBTs do the bulldozing and use the BMP for indirect support/counter sniping. And given that the missiles are wire-guided, if you have to shoot from a long distance, don't shoot straight. Yaw and pitch the missile to reduce the intended target from figuring out exactly where it came from just in case you miss.

...Of course, in the game, there's no infantry, so the BMP's actual purpose is irrelevant.
