The BR matching system sucks!!
This seems to be especially relevant when you play "missions" - you know after you have a had a really cr@p game and you seemed to be playing against other tanks that are bullet-proof and nothing you do results in a kill, etc etc... and then the summary screen rolls up and it says "mission in progress" ...
The problem is when you check you seem to be consistently playing against players that have a much higher BR rating (which explains why their tanks shrug off hits but one shot from them results in a truly spectacular flare) and you might as well just change your name to cannon-fodder because you have as much chance as a snowball - in hell - on a hot day!
And before anyone climbs on the bandwagon let me say that I play for the fun of it and therefore have no problems with losing - the problem comes in when you have multiple games and lose consistently (as in 18 out of every 20 mission games with no kills) - and yet when not playing a mission the results are consistently ok (win or lose I average 2 to 3 kills.)
So how do you get to choose to not play missions?

I do not know what you are talking about with 'mission in progress'.

In the normal modes, you will never face any tank with a BR more than 1.0 above your highest-BR vehicle. Period. Such tanks are quite beatable, though certainly they tend to have the advantage.

You can do yourself a favour by looking at your lineup compared to whats possible in the possible enemys tree.
For example. I thought i would use a 4.0 russian lineup as theres a good selection of tanks at 4.0 and 3.7.
But i noticed im always playing in a minimum of 4.3 games. So i looked at the german tree and realised that almost anyone at around that br would go slightly higher due to whats available and whats lacking at just 4.0
Consequently nearly any game i play has to be at least 4.3 because thats all the enemy will be playing.

Well - your point about a max 1.0 higher BR is simply not correct... I have just played a game now where my max BR is 3.0 across all my tanks and 1 of my tanks got taken out by a Stug 111G (which is BR 4.3 - according to the research tree) so not sure about your period... period

then why do you get an award for killing someone 1-2 br higher than you?

When you die and take out a tank that is 1-2 br less that your best tank

Well - your point about a max 1.0 higher BR is simply not correct... I have just played a game now where my max BR is 3.0 across all my tanks and 1 of my tanks got taken out by a Stug 111G (which is BR 4.3 - according to the research tree) so not sure about your period... period
That is correct, -/+1.0 is the current matchmaker right now. You have a 3.3 BR tank.

Rb has a max br difference of 1.0
I beleive arcade has a max br difference of 1.3.

I haven't seen anything about any ground mode doing anything other than matchmaking on a -/+1.0 BR difference based on your highest BR vehicle.

That's for air arcade, and I think involves averages or something.

The "mission in progress" means that you left the battle early. That's all. The "mission" is just the battle you were playing in. Take your tin foil hat theories elsewhere

No, there's nothing like that. The closest thing is that in Air AB it is possible for your lineup BR to be 0.3 lower than the BR of your top plane under certain circumstances. So if your lineup BR is your top BR, and someone whose lineup BR is yours +1 and their top plane is their lineup BR +0.3, you can wind up fighting a vehicle with BR +1.3 from your top aircraft.

Frankly, I'm not going to believe that what happened is what you think without some kind of proof.

One possible explanation would be you playing in RB, where the Stug IIIG is BR 4.0, not 4.3.

29 out of last 32 tier2 games I have played has been slaughters. Including the 4 person brigade seal clubbing types obviously communicating (seen by their movements)

Why use a tin foil hat when you can roll yourself in it OP
