[It's been a while since i've looked at the J2M's but IIRC...]
-The J2M4 is a J2M3 that can climb better but lacks proper high altitude capabilities; It'll reach altitude faster than a J2M3 but won't be as useful as the J2M3 once it reaches that high altitude.
-The J2M5 has the best of both worlds but ♥♥♥ 30mm's are God-Awful and Amazing at the same time. When they work, they work, but a lot of times they can just "spark." On larger aircraft, they can be lack luster since its just raw HE and there are not proper AP ammo in the belt choices (practice is as useful as a rubber bullet). In other words, make those 84 rounds (42 "clicks" count).
-[In regards to RB...] The A7M1 is overall inferior to the A7M2 but it sits at a lower BR. Both have great turning, great armament (Those 13.2mm's are something else, would've been nice if Japan used em more), and decent high speeds. The drawback with the A7M1? low acceleration with moderate energy retention. You have to pre-plan your attacks to make them work if you plan on doing more than a 1v1. Your low speed and low acceleration will be your weakness (on top of the usual weaknesses with Japanese planes). I've had a few encounters in RB in as an A7M2 fighting an A7M1 and hands down, I'll take my A7M2 over my A7M1 any day, but that doesn't mean the A7M1 is bad. If you can talisman the A7M2, do that first. If not then see below.
Out of the three you have listed, I'd recommend:
A7M1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>J2M4>J2M5
The J2M5 is my all-time favorite Japanese premium, basically you get 5.7 performance at 4.7 with even better guns, and in AB you have in-air reloads. A wonderful earner.
The RP earning potential also allows you to effectively research jets without penalty, unlike the A7M1 which is tier 3. The J2M4 isn't necessarily bad, but compared to the 30mms it's really no contest.
A7M1 is good too but only Tier III so a bit limited for grinding.
The A7M1 has way better performance, and is essentially good at almost everything. It has good wing guns, with plenty of ammo; getting 6 kill games is possible with this and carrying games is within possibility if you know what you’re doing.
The J2M5 has very good climb, and still good all-round performance still. It however has only 2 30mm guns, with only 32 rounds per gun. This is the number one drawback, it is a 5.0+ aircraft at a lower BR because of it’s hard to use guns.
However, if you do get used to them, 84 rounds is all you need. It is possible to get some 4 kill games, despite the ammo count. If you get used to them, you can hit aircraft with a short burst, and one shell is all you need — it’s about if you can hit them, not what happens if you do. It’s like a derp gun of the sky (not as much as the actual ones like with 47mm guns and stuff), you get all-round good performance and high damage, but you get a very unforgiving ammo count and have to get good with the cannons.
Also it is rank 4, so it can research jets, if that is a factor. The A7M cannot.
