Just a general discussion about the AMX-30 ACRA

I'll start with the good aspects of this thing. At this point of the french tank tree, you should know well the AMX-30 chassis, so you won't have much problems adapting to the ACRA's mobility (although it feels a bit heavier than the others AMX-30s). The missile has great penetration value, and a guided missile is always a nice weapon to have in a line-up. The reload speed is quite decent for a 142mm missile.
Now for the downsides... It might come from my lack of experience with missiles, but I can't one-shot hard targets, it seems like even though the penetration is good, the post-pen damage is a bit subpar (or maybe it's a normal thing with ATGMs, as I said, I never played with ATGMs before getting my hands on this tank). As I said above, it feels a bit heavier than its brothers, and the mobility when stock (I unlocked it yesterday) is awful...

Does anyone else have an opinion on this thing? Was it worth researching or is this thing just good for collectors?

Missiles dont really 1 shot tanks unless you hit ammo or kill most of the crew. Its quite easy to kill the crew on russian tanks for example as they only have 3 alot of the time, but when you have 4 or 5 crew members in a tank you should aim for ammo if possible.

I see. I guess that when you aim for these spots, this tank can be quite good.

Yeah. ATGM post pen is average / middle ground. Its a lot better than APDS and you'll find yourself actually getting 1 shots unlike APDS, but its not quite the same as the APFSDS = kill everything if you hit centre of mass stuff.

Personally I love ATGM tanks as you can abuse them to get insane gun depression, just fire and aim down as far as you can go in the gunner view, the missile will curve to where you're looking. In tanks like the T-55am you can get 10 degrees gun depression in a tank that would normally only have 4. (iirc)

It might not help so much as the AMX already has good gun depression, but its just a tip. ;)
