War Thunder's developers have previously made the excuse they the game doesn't need Anti-cheat because they manually ban hackers. Same excuse has been made with other developers for Tarkov, which is also finally getting Anti-cheat. The developers don't play their own game so they don't get to experience how "effective" manually banning cheaters is.
-Firing.
-Previous position and movement.
-Marks on map.
-MG damage causing the penetration popup to appear.
I can tell where a enemy is due to all of these. This can happen to helo's as well. If you're hovering in place, I can range you and hit potentially. It becomes easier with time.
Also, even if you are moving, it can sometimes be possible if you're going slowly.
EDIT: 200 metres isn't far.
Previous position when they had to fully rotate their turret to find me then track me through smoke while I'm strafing. Yes. No hackers in War Thunder. Manually banning is effective yes. They are good players yes.
the amount of cheaters caught have been rising steadely each month, gaijin finally came to their senses.
A. MG hit cam
B. Commander cupola glass (tend to be sticking out even through smoke screen) dunno if fixed since
C. Luck/instinct
D. Knowing the maneuver the enemy will do and therefore know where to fire to hit him
Yes. Next update. How long has the game been out? How long have the developers taken to add one of the cheapest most ineffective anti-cheats out there? Can't expect them to pay for anything else. At least they've finally realised how asinine and ineffective their "manually banning" is.
At one point on Kursk, I put down a semicircle of smoke with my M24, repositioned myself so I wasn't at the obvious center of it, and sat still without shooting so there was no reasonable way for anyone on the other side to see where I am.
Still got sniped straight through the smoke from across the map. No missed shots or MG spray beforehand either.
Though I have had lucky battles myself before, one recently where I got 3 kills in a row by blindly firing in the general direction of the enemy, which I couldn't see through foliage. Still was nowhere near that range.
The developers do play the game. I've personally seen them playing the game. They are, however, usually very busy.
You're also running on the assumption that cheating is a widespread problem. I can't speak for others, but since playing the game in 2012, I haven't found anyone I could prove beyond doubt was cheating- so I don't subscribe to the "cheating is a widespread issue" idea.
It seems like your definition of a "cheater" is someone who saw you shooting through smoke and SWAG'd a couple of rounds back through the smoke following the tracer/smoke trail of the rockets you fired.
200 meters is arms reach for just about anything. And at that range, sorry, but the helicopter is such a big target that anyone shooting at it would be hardpressed to miss.
I've shot an Mi-4 from about 3km away with main gun of my XM-1. it's not impossible, and can be far from challenging if the pilot is flying predictably.
Also interesting to see the chain of,
> Players complain about lack of anti cheat
> Developers decide they will get some anti cheat
> Players say that the anti cheat they chose isn't good enough before it's even hit the live server to be observed....
Yeah, cause forget praising them for going in the right direction, or at least trying something out, right?
Does the lowest setting of graphics remove all smoke effects or at least enough to gain advantage?
Use Machine Gun - Hit Tank Part - Sees the Cam - Prediction = Kill
Experience Tankers
See's Tank Pop Smoke - Prediction = Kill
I'm referring smoke created after I pelted someone with rockets, not tank smoke. Obviously you can blind fire in to tank smoke with machine guns to hit targets. A helicopter moving at 230km/h which is also strafing is a little harder to hit.
