How to play KV-1 ZiS-5?

The tank has a terrible gun, so I can only shoot at soft spots. It's too slow to really flank around. And it's in a BR that puts it together with the types of Pz F2 from whom the tank is paper-thin.

Last game I was penetrated through the turret mantlet, effectively the most-protected part of the tank. So if I can be penned there, then everything else is useless too.

Any tips on what to do with this tank?

Angle, only turn the turret towards your target when you intend to fire, other than that keep tank and turret angled at around 30-40 degrees and you’ll bounce 90% if that’s fired at you.

Oh and watch out for any British 75mm tank especially the Achilles. They can pen right through your max armor thickness.

This thing is a beast, angle it and use BR-350B ammo that is plenty good to penetrate majority of stuff it faces. Forget APCR since russian APCR is just trash.

All I can say it is a popular tank, most maps I play are awash with them and they play havoc, I have one, do not enjoy playing it though, not sure why it just does not 'feel' right but I play it occasionally on the basis of if you can't beat em join em

try to fly through these tanks and all rank 2-4 russian tanks as most are not that fun to play. You will start to have fun with the is2s if you are good with guns and not so much armor

The KV1 has a weakspot underneath its barrel (only 90mm) and the cheeks of the turret have only 90mm effective armor, too so stay angled all the time. Try to not face enemies in different directions at the same time. Dont go into close combat if you can help it.

And dont be stationary so the enemy has a harder time hitting your weakspots.

This thing is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome, as of now, I have 185 deaths and 617 kills with it in AB. Don't forget to angle your armor, and prioritize enemies who can easily penetrate and kill you (Pz IVs, M10s, etc.)

Don't play it. Choose tanks with lower battle rating.

Why, russian 4.3 is one of the stronger brackets with nice stuff to use like KV-1 ZiS-5, KV-1S, SU-85, T-34-57, T-34E STZ.

I skipped this tank and got the kv2. I skipped it using my t34 85

Is the KV2 decent to play? Seems to me like there's no way to hide in cover with that huge turret.

BTW, I usually play RB only, so maybe this is why it's strange that some people say it's good and some say it's bad, the tank is probably very different from AB and RB?
