T-72 cannot fully penetrate a M1A1 Abrams

During the first Gulf War three kinetic energy piercing rounds from a T-72 hit the M1A1 armor but unable to fully penetrate but the external damage was enough to send the Abrams to get repaired. Six other M1A1s were allegedly hit by 125 mm tank fire, but the impacts were largely ineffectual. This can be attributed to the fact that Iraqi T-72s were firing inferior ammunition, a generation behind that used by the Russian army at the time. Also the smoothbore main gun of the T-72 is ♥♥♥♥ in a modern tank battle. The only way to destroy an Abrams with a T-72 is with a HEAT shell to the ass.

Lion of Babylon was a crap tank, may look like a T-72.. but it is no were near the level of a warsaw pact T-72. Didn't help with poor crew training in both gulf wars.

The golfwar T-72 as most of you call it was not even a T-72.
The tanks the Americans encountered where called Asad Babil.
They where a downgrade of a downgrade of a downgrade of an actual T-72.

A near useless hull made of mild steel. On impact with a shell the tank would literally explode into pieces. While an actual T-72 would sustain mild damage and could be towed back for repairs.

The Assad Babil also used sub standard propellant charges initially sold by the Russians, but locally build copies where even more watered down.
And that explains why M1A1 armor could brush off the shots.

Appearently they where even firing training rounds. TPFSDS rounds.
The surpreme leader had no idea what he was buying.
But no one dared to question his expertise for good reason.

An actual T-72B would be more then a match for an M1A1 at the time.

a few reasons

complaints about X vehicles ballance in an old thread may have been before it had its battlerating changed, or before some other vehicle it has issues with was added or had its battlerating changed.

the people involved in the thread probably let the thread go inactive because they ran out of things to say, had their problems explained, or simply wernt interested anymore, getting reminded of an old thread you were subscribed to and lost interest in about can be anoying.

if noone has had anything to say for two weeks its probably not that important to the people involved and so rather than bring back an old discussion bothering people already done with it just start a new one
