This isn't World of Tanks. You have to aim the gun with the gun sight/scope at the correct angle using the marks on the sight. There is no satellite or drone camera with a highlighted area where the shell will land. Unless you are in arcade. In that case the cross is where your shell will land if your tank is on flat ground.

Honestly this is retarded stuff for sure, as blind firing was VERY much a thing in WW1/WW2, especially into trenches, past hills, etc...

Issue is, no map that normally has an artillery truck is big enough to make use of referencing fire other than firing onto the enemy airfields. Even then most of the maps don't have a grid size reference making it impossible to perform indirect fire. Some maps are in higher tiers, but then they're too hilly or too cramped to make it possible from where you CAN fire on them. No tanks (Except the Matilda Hedgehog) are equiped with proper mortars for fully indirect fire.

Honestly it's part of the reason I wish that EC proposal was being worked on. 2 week EC match with several hundred players, planetside style, with full combined arms would make artillery vehicles much more useful since you could easily provide fire support from over 4 km away with some vehicles that fire just straight HE. All you'd need is the ability to actually range the target with those weapons quickly. A deployable range finder isn't that far fetched when the Germans and Americans both carried them for artillery spotting during ww2.

This is what 2.1 should have been tbh.

Anyways, actually helping Op here now. Go into settings, you'll find that there is a drop down for a mouse wheel bind. By default it is set to camera position, change it to gun elevation and you'll be able to adjust your guns elevation without moving the sniper view up into the sky. This can help with much lower velocity guns that have trouble firing past 400 yards.
