Tips for Light Tank Players?
I just got into the tank part of the game, and have discovered that I really like using light tanks for flanking and sniping. Do you guys have other useful ideas and strategies for light tanks?

well there are the usual rules.
-Know the map
-Do not rush the CP but rather disrupt enemy reinf.
- Don't insist if you can't kill someone, keep hitting and running
- Don't get shot

LOL... my biggest downfall is staying for the killshot....big problem most of the time but so satisfying when you get it.......

aim for the tracks of vehicles you cant penetrate, turn them into sitting ducks for the bigger tanks.

Learn weak spots of vehicles, move frequently, don't get into the habit of sniping, because it doesn't become a viable tactic later on

Depends on what tank, M18 can be godlike.
Just peek corners take a shot and move back.
Rinse and repeat, enemy turret traverse often is slower than you moving ur entire vehicle.

The M18 has a great gun... and can penetrate a lot of things from the front using standard APCBC ammo. Some of the harder to play lights are the ones with low penetration, low velocity, or both.

Those units are typically blessed with great speed and you can buzz around the map creating headaches for the other team. Use to scout locations for the big guns on the team.... and try to avoid fire while doing so.

You usually can't challenge dedicated snipers, you really have to rely on mobility ^^

The 12cm japanese gift tank is a hard one to play well, at least whenever I try.

No gun depression... no armor... no speed, LONG reload, and low velocity shells. Every now and then when your shot should one-hit kill you can get unlucky and it takes 2-3 shots for a kill, even with a 12cm cannon.

With light tanks always remember: soft cover is no cover. Hug hard covers, learn the maps to know which objects on the map can be shot through and where enemies would usually go to, learn to use smoke to disrupt your enemies or cover your movement, always use your binos to scan over covers before moving, relocate after killing someone (unless you want to get revenge bombed) etc.

Hide, peek-a-boom, relocate. Live by these words.

General rules of light tanks
1) Flank, Don’t try to head on KV’s, IS’s, and Tigers.
2)APHE type shells are almost always a must, as with any tank, if you feel you are very good at flanking, APCR is very good for faster firing guns as you can quickly kill crew members with extreme accuracy.
3) Remember that you have almost no armor sometimes and can be killed easily. If your first shot doesn’t kill it you know that you can’t kill the enemy tanks, know where to aim for certain modules, aim for the gunner, cannon breech, or horizontal turret drive first then try to kill its mobility such as the tracks, driver, engine, or transmission.

Note: I mainly play as Germany and most of my light tank knowledge comes from America Tier 1 and 2. Germany really has no light tanks but the Panzer III J1, L, and M may as well be a light tank. Remember that tanks do very if you get used to doing one thing with one tank, be wary with a different tank as it may have a more powerful gun or less powerful gun or a better engine.
Hope this helps!
