External range calculator
anyone else use an external range calculator on a tablet or phone? choke the target in mils then based on the target use a spreadsheet or chart for a quick range calc? seems good in long range shots for first time hits.

I just guestimate the range and usually get it pretty close.

yep that works too but for long 2000m shots the external calc works great

Im not sure if you are supposed to use external programs to calculate range finding, but if there ain't no rule against it then well good luck.

It's a manual rangefinder; so long as the application is not interfacing with WT or modifying anything it's fine.

I will freely admit to using it but it is external to WT, I use a tablet. I have been reported numerous times but it is legal.

If its manual then why not use your ingame range finder on your tank... And if your playing at a tier without rangefinders and you are getting an advantage by using an external rangefinder Im sure it is not allowed. But there is no rule so you can do what you want.

the ingame range finder is off by 200 to 400 meters usually

Part of the fun. I have played so long that with my favorite tanks I can just guestimate and hit first try most time. Gives you a nice little smile.

I use it for mostly long range arcing shots like HE or HEAT

All tanks have the ability to rangefind; WT simulates this by a margin of error simulating the commander estimating it. The rangefinding module on Tier IV and V tanks just extends it out to 3 KM plus; along with cutting the errors down.

You just have to bind a key to it; then invest a little in the actual crew skills. In the tiger 2 i can get accurate estimates out to 800m; what the OP is doing basicallly amounts to correcting the commanders errors.

who would ever have the time to do that? Isn't the numbers and lines good enough?

it takes just a few seconds to ensure a one hit shot that usually kills, well worth it

For most guns I'll eyeball it and zero in.
Derp guns I'll use the game's rangefinder so long as I'm within range, because it's faster than reloading (which also gives me time to recheck the range between shots if need be).

Long-range fights barely happen anymore because Gaijin is killing off long-range maps like Hurtgen Forest. If I do get a map like that, I just try to avoid using derp guns.
