Well I've only got the T29 and the normal M26, so, the T29.

T29 all the way, even though it has been nerfed it's still the best 6.7/7.0 tank in tank arcade.

m46 works better in an upteir as its mobility and HEAT-FS let it compete with higher teir tanks where taking a hit means you are dead anyway

T29 is better at 6.7 and downteirs where armour still matters and its lack of mobility or postwar amunition types arnt an issue against similar tanks

accurate* the m26e1 kinda lack the armor and the firepower to deal damage frontally against uptier matches. You gotta rely on speed to flank them directly from the side. Occasionally you can pop some t34 and t44 but t54 and is6 is a whole new kind of game.
M46 because of shell variety, also very mobile tank, it can kill any opponent fast and easy also has good reverse speed wich can be a life saver.

But most of the time won't the M46 face stronger tanks than the T29?

Yes, but it can handle with that no problem, i still use m46 in 8.3br matches despite having m60s fully upgraded.
I start the match with my m46 to go fast capping zones and make a few kills then i use my m60s to finish the match.
I have matches that i survive with my m46 until the end, since it has heafts now it can be competitive at all levels i think also the m62shot its amazing to flank and oneshot kills.

Anything with more than 200mm can pen the IS-6.

T29 has a great gun, but its not good to use at toptier, t29 despite being nice heavy its to slow for toptier games, while the M46 holds up very nice down or uptiered.

Theyre both pretty good, just depends what you value in a tank. Personally i love the T29 WAY more than the M46 tiger, despite being a biiger fan of run and gun and mobility compared to heavy tank playstyles. To me, the T29 is far more consistent in performance compared to the M46. The T13 is an exceptional shell that always seems to get the job done on the first shot. I cant say this about the M46 unless youre firing the APHE round. HEATFS is far too inconsistent in damage for me to like. I prefer straight solid shot over HEATFS unless im facing a T54 or IS3 or such, in which case i have no choice, and i dont have much love of solid shot, and the APHE it fires has really low pen for the BR (but you really should be firing into the sides with it anyways)

The M46 does have the ability perform better no matter the game BR since it uses HEATFS, so youll be able to deal damage no matter what, but dont expect to bounce anything. The T29 can murder anything besides a T54/IS3/4 on the battlefield, so the list of tanks it has issues against is too short for me to care much about it.

For what its worth, i have a 1.07KD in the M46 and nearly a 2.0 (1.86) in the T29, although KD is a questionable metric in this game.

If you like fast, go M46, if you like slowish and steady but a great gun, go T29
