NVidia 540M GT - too old now?
hello, I have been playing War Thunder for several years on my 540M GT, in my XPS15 (i7 2720 / 8Gb) purchased 2011. Recently I've noticed the increasing instability of the video card which often fails and reverts to low texture mode. Even with a fresh install of windows 7 and fresh drivers, whether I can get to the main menu and start a game is hit and miss. I've done it twice in about 8 attempts. I haven't yet entered a battle. I suspect my card is getting to old now for the game. Anyone in a similar situation? Or is the game just inherently unstable?

The game is quite stable. I think it is time to consider new hardware unless you want to use ultra low texture mode.

im running the game fully maxed on a 460m at 50 fps, maybe its just the card dying.

hmm the computer becomes very hot when playing some games. Perhaps the card has been damaged in the past. Interestingly, I used the Nvidia graphics control panel to set the card to integrated graphics. This enabled me to get to the main menu, rotate the plane around, and even select Test Battle, but then it went black, 'not responding' but the music played.

Maybe the card is dying, or the cooler is starting to fail.

It might be time to get new hardware. Six years for a laptop is pretty damn impressive.

i got 6 years running a pentium intergrated graphics and flogging it with games like wt,tf2 and csgo. I lost count of how many times it bluescreened and thermal shutdown.

yeah, I've only just replaced the HDD with an SSD. Kicks along quite nicely... if only I could figure out the video issue on this game!

i have a GTX 980 (CPU AMD 6300) and had atoo a problem with the FPS, it suddenly had gone from 120 FPS to just 15. This guide helped and fixed my problem. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=722279941&searchtext=lag

I resolved the issue by underclocking the GPU to prevent overheating...
