Probably just because it's a free game

Why?

Because tanks are heavy and don't have ABS.

Wait what I thought this was a war thunder post lol
because they are massive chunks of metal traveling surprisingly quickly and thus the large ammount of momentum travelling on a smooth surface doesnt corner so well
If you play Arcade Battles tanks have much higher engine power and move much faster and in a more arcade way. In RB, they will act more realistically. Also account for power/weight. If you compare something like a BT-7 and Panzer III E, the BT-7 can trave; at 54km/h while the Panzer III E can travel at 67km/h, but the BT-7 weighs 13.7 tons (25.8hp/tonne) while the Panzer III E weighs 19.5 tons (13.6hp/tonne) letting the BT-7 drift with more ease.
Well, if they did not throw their tracks and require field repairs for doing so, technically tanks could do this in real life, too. Like already stated, momentum, heavy hard object, soft/slippery surfaces. You can drift pretty much anything with enough effort. lol

It doesn't need much effort to make a tank drift, especially on a forest road you can easily slide to the left or right when driving between 20 mp/h - 80 mp/h.

But this doesn't really matter, because a good driver can handle it.
Never watched Girls und Panzer bud?
