It started with just liking the way they look, then with years of playing WoT, I quickly learned that no matter how much the German fanboys whine, they have some of the most effective weapons at their disposal.
TD's that can actually bounce things off their face, have fast reload, super accurate, fast, and turn really fast? Check.
Medium tanks that have high-penetration guns, including early HEAT rounds which dominate Tier 1. Check.
Heavy tanks with REALLY heavy armor by late-game, while having fast-reloading super-accurate guns. Check.
People constantly complaining about how "weak" the Tiger 1 or 2 is, while you can easily seal club in them, which makes you feel like a better player for playing a "weak" tank and doing well. Double Check.
Don't even get me started on the Pz II and the 20mm gun that requires 1-2 mediocre battles to unlock AP ammo which will shred all tanks in Tier I, just like their SPAA, and premium Sd. Kfz. 140/1. Checkity-check-check.
I used to see a lot more German whine threads back in the day on the official forums, and for every one I would go out and murder as many noobs as I could with my Sd. Kfz. 140/1, even more so if they were IN a German tank just to show that it's not the tank's fault... the funny thing is that I'm not even that good, yet the 20mm German auto-cannons would shred everything despite the cries of the (loudest) masses of how "bad" it was.
I do also like certain specific tanks form other nations, too. I <3 the KV-2 and Tortoise. One for being the definition of a "derp" gun, the other just for being a large moving fortress of rapid-fire death. :D
For planes, British bombers probably, but I worked pretty hard to get some of the American ones... because they live long and prosper. :3
Early on, the obvious preference was the Soviets, because their Tier 1 planes are excellent. As I moved up with them however, I found their planes obnoxious to handle and too often I would find myself crashing into the ground because their controls seem to get "stuck" at higher speeds. My tendency for crazy maneuvers that are extremely risky and often lead to a pursuer crashing does not help at all, since that is MUCH better suited for the British or Japanese. The firepower of the "troll cannons" on stuff like the Yak-9 didn't make up for that for me, since I could kill people just fine, or better, with other nations. The end result is that the Soviets are my least-progressed nation and the one I least enjoy playing at Tier 4. Haven't even tried out the Jets yet in an actual match.
In a polar opposite to my experience with the Soviets, I HATED the early German planes, but after getting some competent Me-109's things got better. And then once the Fw-190's came into play... it was awesome. When I want to get into a good lineup of fighter planes, I pick Tier 3-4 Germans. Sometimes Tier 5 too. Managed to get the Me-262 to work for me pretty well after getting used to it. In an overall sense, Germany is probably my best nation. All those 20mm's are fuuuuun.
Bombers for me are the very obvious Americans. The B-24 was a big lion maker for me in the days when years ago bombing bases tended to decide matches within ~5 minutes. But that came to an end and my taste for the US lineup is pretty low. While I can have alot of fun with Hellcats and Corsairs, by the time you get into Tier 4-5, things start to suck since the only real advantage you have is raw speed. They can be fun, but I tend to stick to Tier 2-3 USA.
Britain can be alot of fun for me, particularly with Spitfires and Typhoons. I had high hopes for the Lancaster, but I died way too much in that damn thing before being able to make the most of its crazy bomb load. I stick to fighters exclusively with the British now, since at least with them there is a consistent quality. Spitfires might not make things melt like the Fw-190 or have the insane agility of the A6M's, but they are consistently reliable and competent.
Japan... I have a very weird relationship with. On one hand, I underperform with alot of their aircraft because they burst into flames very easily and are seriously lacking in firepower. On the other hand, I can be an utter beast in the A6M2. I've had times where I'd play multiple matches exclusively with that plane to see how many people I could kill before finally getting shot down. I know I managed to get at least past 30, and maybe close to 50 kills with a single life. Alas, while the A6M2 has a special place in my heart, the rest of Japan's lineup just... doesn't work as well for me. Even the later Zeroes after the A6M2 don't do as well for me. :s
So... basically if I want to seal-club, I play my German Fw-190's/Me-109's/Ta-152. If I want to have decent matches that don't quite feel as overkill, i'll use British Spitfires and that one really good Typhoon. If I want to put on my crazy-face and see if I can make people scream my name in rage, I use my Japanese A6M2. XD
Not saying really anything about tanks. I'm much better with planes and have barely progressed at all with any nation's tanks. I'm only in Tier 3 with my Soviet and German tanks, whereas I have jets with every nation. With that said, I tend to learn towards the Soviets with the Germans following close behind. I'm probably just making up for my WoT days when more than half of all of my matches were in German tanks and my only Tier 10's were the E-100 and Leopard 1. >_>
Also having come back to this game after nearly a year and seeing a Shilka suddenly makes me REALLY interested in Soviet tanks. How is that thing? Is it worth an old-school obsession-fueled grind of the sort I did to get my first Sabre? XD
Just the thoughts of someone who used to play this game alot and reinstalled today after nearly a year away. Wonder if I'll get back into it. :o
On the other hand thoy, I am a Russian Tanks Tsundere[en.m.wikipedia.org] because imo most Russian tanks are beautiful (except somes such as IS-4M, T-28, IS-1 & 2 (IS-2 model 1944 is different thou, I like it), PT-76B, ASU-85, 37mm Half-track...
I like most early russian planes.
20mm at 2.3 FTW
Also ground targets is best belt for air targets becuase USSR logic
It seems your plane experience reflects my own, although the PBY Catalina was my early love affair in the air... I mean it's a fking flying boat that had machine guns fire automatically into the noses of little planes that barely had the fire power to cause any damage to you. Sooo many kills from the plane just doing everything for me, leaving me to drop my bombs whenever and without worrying about having to do peasant things like "aiming". lol xD
I was a huge fan of German machinery in WoT also, and to be honest I found most of the Soviet tanks to be disappointing, as they were the first nation I focused on. My first Tier 10 was an IS-7, and want to guess how I did in that having next to no experience? Fast forward to having most of the tanks in every nation, definitely all of the heavy tanks and TD's, and well, the Maus, E-100, JagdPz E-100, and Waffle E-100 (see a pattern?) became my favorite end-game tanks to play just for fun, not just for the damn guild or whatever matches in which they always made everybody use the T110E5 for some reason (I was not good with that thing, either... T110E4 was a different matter).
Oh, well. Such is life.
However USSR and UK are not countries ;p
I changed the title
Now answer the damn question XD
Started with it, stuck with it.
I don't like any aircraft though, since I am a terrible fighter pilot. Other than the bf-110, my ground attacker.
Germany also has the Panther D with it's superior frontal armour which can bounce more than a T-34-85 before it was nerfed
Since when was the USSR not a country? o_O
The country consisted of Republics or States, just like how the USA consists of States. Surely Texans are different than people who live in New York, but they all speak the same language, general economic climate, and public goods (such as the military). They had one Federal government just like how the USA has.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, 15 independent countries formed, but I'm sorry, Ukraine is as much its own "unique" nation as North Carolina is to South Carolina... I should know, half my family is from Russia, the rest is from Ukraine. Ultra-nationalists/bigots who like to feel special about themselves would probably disagree, but hey... I hear some people in New York don't like associating with people from New Jersey. Same difference.
Yeah, I also had a hard time with Japan for a while, but their TD's got really fun really fast... I would even argue better than the Germans at Tier II. :X
