How do I permenantly disable the Gaijin.net launcher, and why does it exist?

I play warthunder very infrequently. Like once every other month infrequently. But every time I patch it, it starts the Gaijin.net launcher and links it to start on startup for my PC, every time I patch.

I remove the auto-start entry, but I'd like to not have to do that every time I want to fly a plane around for a little bit. So I come to the steam forums, how do I disable this downloader outright? I have the game on steam to patch on steam, and I launch the game through steam. If I wanted a secondary launcher, I wouldn't be playing it through steam. The auto-start crap is even more annoying.

The Gaijin(dot)net agent is an auto-updater.

Open Launcher>Settings>Uncheck Auto-updates

To stop Gaijiin.net from auto-starting with windows - (launcher version 1.0.3.58 / current as of 8DEC17)
1) Open the launcher.
2) Click on the WRENCH icon (Launcher Setup) in the upper right-hand corner (near the minimize and close 'X' window icons).
3) In the window that pops up (titled advanced settings), uncheck the "Auto updates" option.
4) Close (X) the program.
The tray icon should disappear from your taskbar and Gaijiin.net should remove itself from your startup programs. To be sure, 5) restart the computer.

Max, the link you provided on 2APR only links to the 'Discussions' tab in the WarThunder Steam Community (link's no longer valid?). Searching on the discussion board didn't give any applicable results. That's why I am replying to this with explicit instructions.

Additionally, Gaijiin.net doesn't provide this auto-start information for users (even in the information that pops up while floating a pointer on the checkbox). It only states "Check for updates in the background and run Launcher to install newer version". There really should be some mention that this checkbox toggles Gaijiin.net starting with windows startup.
