Is Gaijin's version of Steam's auto-update: basically a small side-software that checks for updates while you do something else.

It's the updater, it automatically updates WT, you can turn it off by turning off autoupdater.

Yep, exactly as mentioned above the Gaijin(dot)net agent is a tool used to update the game in the background so as to avoid the long wait times when a new update is pushed.

Not it will interrupt whatever you're doing to start the launcher to update the game if you leave it on
