The difference Yak-3P vs. Yak-9P?

Can someone explain to me the difference between the 2 Yaks?

yaks are numbered wierdly, the yak 9 is the the successor to the yak7 while the yak 3 is a another successor to the yak1 seperate from the 7/9 line and actually entered service after the yak 9

the yak3 is essentially the smaller and more manouverable sister to the yak9. the 9 can hit higher speeds and carries a heavier armament but the 3 will outturn it
