Czech Hedgehogs/Tank Traps
So, i just found out that those x shaped anti tank obstacles are called Czech Hedgehogs and im here to ask a question about them. https://www.google.ca/search?q=czech+hedgehog+vs+tank&biw=1920&bih=928&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjw-Mqb6bDSAhXmrlQKHW5FDCUQ_AUIBigB#tbm=isch&q=czech+hedgehog&*&imgrc=dFSewvlTTPFeNM:

How do they actually stop a tank? I'm not a youtube comment tank expert or anything, far from it. But it just doesn't look like they should be able to stop a big 50 ton tank. How does it actually prevent a tank from going through?

If you ram it, it will actually get pushed back down making it even marder to push. It just works.

they are like oversized caltrops, both in design and effect in that if an armoured vehicle rolls one it will always have spikes pointing up, try to push one of those out of the way and it may damage your track, roll underneath lifting the front of your tank or just get shunted and tangled with others, barbed wire and generally be ~200kg of uncooperative metal you really dont want to be getting tangled with in combat

When pushing on it, you are going to dig 2 legs deeper and make it harder and harder for the hedgehog to move, making it harder and harder to push. At a specific point, your tracks will just be tearing at the ground and do nothing at all. The shape and position of the beams also means that they can roll over in any direction if pushed and still be in the same shape and position as it was before. They work best on soft ground like sand or dirt, but can also dig into paved roads.

Sometimes tanks did push hard enough that they start to climb on top of it, at which point it often becomes stuck and useless/an easy target. The triangular shapes in the center from how they are built make them very strong and near impossible for the avrage Sherman, Panzer IV, T-34, etc to break by just pushing. In combat, the only real option is to try and tow them out of the way, have multiple people try to move it, or destroy it (via an Engineer or shooting it with the main gun).

Sometimes they stop tanks, sometimes they just slow them down, and sometimes they can mess up your tracks.

Depends from how fast, heavy and high your tank is designed.
