Which are? My friend just spent entire days grinding to get a tier 3 tank (the first tiger) to see if things improved, went out to try in arcade mode and got 1-shot'd by a brit tier 2 tank from the front before he could even shift-zoom to get him.
Pz IV F2, StuG III F, Pz III M, Wirbelwind
Pz IV G, StuG III G, 8.8 cm Flak 37, Wirbelwind
Pz IV H, Hetzer, Dicker Max, Ostwind
Use default PzGr for long barrel 75mm. Dont take full load of ammo, study the X-ray and Armor views of tanks you most commonly face so you know where to shoot.
Your friend doesnt know how to angle the Tiger.
This.
Every. Single. Tank.... in this game will get 1-shotted if it's hit in in the right place. No tank is immune, especially if you do not flank or at least angle your armor properly to deflect shots. If enemies are getting behind you often, then that's also a problem with over-reaching your opponent's position and exposing your sides.
Good tanks at their tiers? Pz II, any tank with the short 80mm gun after you research HEAT rounds and learn2aim, Pz IV F2 (downright OP for the tier with that gun), most of the StuG's, etc, etc, etc, etc. My largest killing streak so far was also with the JagdPz IV, and don't get me started on the JagdPz 38(t) and how bouncy it is from all sides.
Brit tanks are some of the hardest to play because their ammo does not have explosive filler (on most tanks), so they have to aim a lot more carefully to make sure their shot/shrapnel cone hits key components.
My suggestion is to just play whichever side you THINK is "OP" until you get to around Tier III. It will show you the tank's weaknesses really quickly, and maybe it will suite your play style better.
Oh, and make sure you have the death replays on and actually WATCH them to see where you were hit, from what range, and or why you got hit.
Lastly, don't simply go for the highest pen ammo you unlock. Read what it is. Often the default ammo type (for the Germans, specifically)which at least has some explosive in it is going to be better than APCR or AP in 99% of all situations.
I've never tried any, so, of course, I have no specialized knowledge. I still have decent plays anyway, but I'd like to learn if possible.
Thanks!
Enjoy. :)
I have personally watched tons of videos and even replays in the past, just can't point to any specifics. Sometimes it's just a matter of a game mechanic that may not be clear, so feel free to ask about those here in the forums. :)
- Angle your tank!
It increases the effectiveness of your armour, and can make some shots bounce that would punch through your unangled front. A quick way to angle: Point the front left or front right corner of your tank at the enemy, then turn a little bit more of your front towards the enemy to better protect your side armour.
- Look for hull-down positions!
This is where you can still aim and shoot at targets, but only your turret is exposed. Depending on how far you can depress your gun (-> aim down), you can use wrecks, rocks, hills etc. for this. German tanks tend to have good gun depression, so they have a lot of potential for hull-down fighting. Try to fight hull-down whenever you can.
- Your standard ammo is your best friend! (German speciality, really)
Most German tanks start with PzGr.39, PzGr. Rot and similar ammunition as their first standard armour piercing ammunition. This also happens to be the most powerful ammunition they can fire. The other ammunition types you can research as "upgrades" (PzGr.40, HlGr.38...) are only really useful for specific circumstances where the standard ammunition fails to penetrate.
Even a jagtiger wich is the strongest one is now obsolete due to the atgms and heafts that melts everything.
Use the panzerF line with 75mm guns, then pantherD along with tiger1 then stay at 5.7 for a while and play above that br when you got the kingtigers unlocked after that work until you got leopards, 10,5 kingtiger or atgms, these are the best choices in my opinion.
In some maps the Maus is still effective and good to use, maps full of rubble and buildings only, because of atgms.
spaas also are good in germany tree, but avoid spgs and tanks with 55mm guns as they are week, only a player with good knowlege of tank models layout know how to use those less caliber guns.
also use stock rounds like pzr.39 for example, wich is the tiger stock round avoid using other shells like apcr, heat and He wich are useless.
Pzr.39 is the round that will explode inside the tank after penetration and kill everything inside.
I generally agree. One of the most OPed German tanks is probably the JagdPz IV. The armor is really bouncy, the gun is high in the hull with really good depression, making it even bouncier. I was on a useless team at one point and waited too long to get the JP IV out and I was the last guy left on the team at our spawn, completely surrounded. Managed to get 8 kills, for a total of 14 that match and survived until the match ended in a loss, despite being hit a dozen times, shelled, and bombed. Once fully upgraded, that thing is a real killer at its BR.
I have not gotten far beyond that in the German TD branch, however all of the StuG's and such before that were very fun to play also. I remember the JagdPanthers to be exceptional from early testing also. The early Marders can still be used by mid-game to counter heavy armor thanks to their great guns, too.
