Edit: You have like almost 2k hours, you should know how to tonk with british hardened biscuit shells!
whats the big deal about this gun exactl/y? seems like almost any german or russian gun is better.
1st: holy necro batman.
2nd: The 17pdr kicks ass in all its forms. Your bounces sound like poorly aimed shots rather than anything wrong with the round itself.
To answer previous questions here. Mk 8 or Shot SV Mk1 is the round you want + some HE for really light targets.
And the only trick with the gun and round it it goes exactly where you put it, except at the longest ranges.
Tiger II H and T-44 going to be the first tanks to really challenge the Mark 8 round. 2 BR above where the 17pdr comes in. The Comet and the Cent 1 being the only UK tanks that will usually run into them and they get Sabot with can handle both.
I will also concede that Jumbos can be a little tricky, but even they can be front penned.
IS can be front penned or turret cheeked.
T-34 same.
Panthers can be turret cheeked, though its trickier than the T-34s.
All medium Shermans can be front penned, or cheeked.
The beautiful thing about the 17pdr is it clean front pens things at ranges where they are not used to being penned. That Tiger that thinks its angled? Take its turret, take its mobility, kill it. That IS? Same thing. That Jumbo? Better to flank, but you can do it.
Then if you ever think you can't drop the gunner, take the barrel. You have the reload.
Ballistics used to behave differently in 2017.
Because I Iook up the topic i want to discuss using the search function and sometimes the topic is an old thread. How is that necro? Doesnt everyone do that instead of starting a new thread?
Anyway - issue solved. I hadnt tabbed it onto mk8 and was using mk6 without realising I needed to select the uptiered shell. Better results with mk8. For a while I was going crazy there man, but then with the correct shell it all started to click...haha
But I'm glad you got it figured. 17pdr is one of the best guns of that BR range.
It's a "necro" because it is a dead thread. "Necro" basically means dead and that's what you're doing, you are currently commenting on a thread that should be dead
