To what extent does WT rely on the cpu?
How much is enough and how much could be used before it goes into diminishing returns area?

Anyone could come into this thread and say I have X and it runs great, but I don't know much of that is thanks to the cpu or the gpu.

I have a budget dirt cheap cpu that's relatively new that I want to over clock but I was wondering what I'd get out of it.
It's just a 2 core cpu with no HT at 3.2ghz, I'm pretty confident it can get me to 4.7. Although I'm curious how much of a performance boost I'd get out of it.

But are you running on max settings with everything maxed out on a 1080 screen?

I play on full hd, medium graphics, on a 750ti, 60+ stable fps. I tried on ultra. In ground force I get about 30fps, sometimes drops to 20.

I can try with other monitors (1440x900 or 1280x1024) and other gpus (650 and 1050ti).

I'm trying to get past 60+ fps because it's currently dipping below and it's quite noticible.
I have a pentium with a 280x (which is equivelent to a 960). However even though the fps is around 60, there's A LOT of tearing which really hinders my performance to do well.

10/10 that gave me a chuckle

I get between 64 and 75 fps on the "movie" preset @ 2560×1440 with my stuff.
Intel core i7 970 @ just under 4Ghz. (2010 processor btw)
Geforce 970 gtx.

CPU usage stays around 20% in the task manager.
Don't know how it handles it accross cores. (my CPU has 6)

The cheapest solution would be to look for an (used) i5 from the same generation (same socket) as your pentium.

I'd look at how much CPU power the game uses before that.
It might not even be the bottleneck.

Well I went into an AB 2.3 match with tanks, and it hovered around 75%
After everyone dispersed, it stayed around 20%

On another note, i5s from that generation (devil's canyon) are still insanely expnsive. They've barely depretiated.
I'd be better off selling it all and buying AMD's ryzen and getting more out of that. But who knows what the benchmarks and prices are but it'll be interesting to see if they shake up intel.

You're more likely to be bottlenecking on the GPU imo.
Download MSI Afterburner, and see what the GPU usage looks like in game.
Mine jumps to 99% as soon as I'm in a match on the movie preset..

You can also use that app to OC your GPU.
It might just do the trick and get you a stable 60fps.
(once it's done you can set it to run on startup and never worry about it again)
You'll also need a benchmark or two to torture test the GPU to make sure it's stable in different conditions.
I used Heaven 4.0 and Furmark.

Edit: Also, if tearing is the main issue, consider running the game with Vsync, or adaptative Vsync. IIRC it cuts your fps by quite a bit but gets rid of tearing.

i5 4690k @3.9ghz, 1070 sc 8gb,8gb RAM @ Max settings @ 1920x1080 with DSR pushing it to 2300 something ish resolution, Solid 60fps with vsync on. Cpu hits 80-99% use at these settings iirc.

depends you can set your cpu to do the graphics as thats what i do on my laptop as there is no gpu and i can run it on high at 30fps reliably
cpu specs 4core@2.4ghz
on my tower the cpu usage is 0.17% its a 8core 5ghz

My backup PC is running an i7 2600k from 2011, with a 970 easily able to top the game at 100+ fps on the highest setting in ground forces.

That doesn't give any info on op's question since you're using mid to high end hardware.
