Well, if you don't want this to happen, you should uncheck the option to join game in progress.
No one should be entering finishing matches with that ticked to yes.
The problem is the game doesn't really 'know' it's about to finish. These low BR games where you get a bunch of armored vehicles, get a couple attackers from the BB-line, 12x50kg bombs plus mg, reload on bombs 30ish seconds, if you get 2 or 3 guys serious on the ground targets the game last like 5 minutes. Playing at that BR can net me easily 30-40 ground kills.
It might happen as well on higher BR, if a team got some serious bombers, so best is to uncheck join game in progress.
There is a cutoff point I suppose, but that's just x time from the start. If you get in 2 minutes late into a low tier game where I'm dedicating myself to ground targets it's almost over ;)
I did have it happen to me sometimes as well, spawn in late, before you actually get anywhere to do anythign the game's over. That's why I don't like that join in progress feature.
Turn off join in progress.
