I would want to know which AP shell are you referring to. Gun and shell type?
Also, having the first actual fully enclosed AA gun the AC and Crusader is quite good. Won't comment on the guns since I have never used them though. But there's definitely worse than those.
Oh, and if you wanted to one shot people in a British tank, too bad. Go play the Russians who have 76s with a huge HE filler that one shots everything. If you hate it, don't play it. I'm going to actually try torturing myself by trying to reach Tier IV.

Perhaps one name could be added:
Churchilll (And no, that's not the tank)
Because in real life when you took an ap shell and the guy next to you got turned into mush, you got the hell outta the tank.
This is not the case in the game, so you have to kill every crew member, putting tanks with solid shot at a disadvantage.
Adoption of certain vehicles like the firefly and eventually working as a team which took them a while.
However as far as shots go, you need to know where to hit.
And as far as the tanks like comets, they're meant to be fast and agile. Armour was never their priority as others have said.
wat lol
TL;DR put yourself in situations where you don't need to reverse, none of that peek a boom nub stuff. Also as far as flanking goes, as long as you're using a medium, they're decent at flanking. What do the speeds of others have to do with your abillity to flank is beyond me. The whole point of flanking is to push while being undetected which can easily be done in ab. With UK's comet's and avenger's speeds this can easily be done.
Otherwise, push, flank and and keep it always hull down and angle.
IRL AP had the same damage potential as APHE, so in-game british tanks should have the same kill power with AP with other tanks that use APHE.
But AP shell characerists appear a bit problematic.
