Whoever made the sound for soviet 122 guns needs to be fired
For real though, is it just me or does it sound like a bat hitting a metal ball when a 122mm gun fires?

And gaijin owns...how many of those? ....
Gaijin doesnt need to own them. Even IF they cant get one of these tanks firing, there is most certainly recordings of the tanks.

Everytime I see an IS-2, I only imagine a very strong Russian hitting a metal ball with a bat.

At around 6:50 the IS-2 fires, but there is someone talking so it is somewhat hard to hear. Also, you may find recordings of the 122mm artillery gun the IS-2s gun was based on.

EDIT: looks like the quotes are messed up.

Nevermind the fact that nearly-80-year-old-recordings are going to be of poor quality in general, and as the link above shows, you're almost never going capture the sound of a single IS 2 or SU 122 firing only once, without any background noise whatsoever. ;)

Small hijack here, i am currently unable to play WT, can anyone confirm if the jagdpanther sound is accurate?

It sounds great imo.
Sounds extremely different ingame, doesnt sound nearly as good. More of ping and a bang at the same time than a actual gun.

Once decomissioned and placed as a display piece, most have the breech removed or dissabled in a way that prevents them from ever firing again, and I would assume all of them are that way. In some rare cases, they will drill a hole in the barrel first, then later patch it and remove/dissable the breech. The best you could do is if they have any M1931/37 A-19's left used for say parades or VE day to do 21 gun salutes, or find and record a D-30 as they are still in use.

As for OP, they are old sounds and I don't think they have ever been updated. Best you can do for now is sound mods. I do believe they plan to update many old sounds at some point, but it's not high on the priority list.

Imperial War Museum Duxford, England.
Kubinka Tank Museum, Russia.

both of these places dont spike the guns or perform any de activation, in reality the biggest reason museums dont fire the guns is because ordanance from the period is unstable due to age, and valueable due to rarity, stockpiled shells from the military tend to be disposed of in a safe manner at the end of the safe life of the propellant.

also you don't risk a simple misfire or breach explosion on a 70 year old tank just to record the noise it makes.

Most countries force privately owned tanks to have deactivated guns, but most Museums keep the tanks in the condition they recieve them or over time restore the tanks.

oh and a sub note where do you want the noise from inside the turret or outside the tank where you are makes the sound different.

that's just awful
1. the audio is not accurate because it's recorded for tv and they didn't have good mics at the time to record audio with quality. Chances are anything at a high DB won't come through well at all, nevermind the fact that old archived media degrades.
2. this is audio that was taken for a documentry which was processed for it, and now at an even lower quality for YT

c'mon man

Ever heard of Foley Artists?

Gaijin could listen and examine all sounds carefully, and recreate them using Foley.
It's suprisingly easy to do.
