tell your antivirus to ignore it
false positive

The file iolo says its detecting is called W32/FakeAlert.FY.gen!Eldorado. When I looked it up it says its a $ grabbing trojan that makes you think your system is infected and tells you to buy their full software package.

When Steam downloads about 3.6 GIG(or whatever the main amount is for full game) Then it does a small update of 9MB by which at the end of this small update my Malware detector says it blocked said file(see beginning)

#1 I tried deleting Steam appcache and restarting...no luck
#2 I deleted local content of Starpoint Gemini 2 and redownloaded...no luck
#3 I read a possible solution that involves removing or stopping my anti virus while download finishes...because some Malware uses real code names as their malware names...I really don't want to do this because of it is a real trojan I don't want to format 800GIG of data to remove it...

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE... a smile and a piece of cheesecake for the one that helps me...whoop whoop!

remove that crappy antivirus program from your PC
Look @ the reviews on amazon.com or other unbiased sites and you will quickly see that its a crap program that usually screws up more then it helps.

This is just another in a long list of fake antivirus / system tune up tools that are malware and make up errors so that you have to buy their full product.

ok...i bought it at Best Buy, I wish I could bring myself to buy Norton's again, but they charge a $40 yearly fee...I will not pay that non-sense. I had them before they got greedy. i'm curious as to how many times people had the same issue with their download.

If you can add the game to the antivirus's exception list it should fix yoru problem
After searching the fourms a few other people have reported false positives

I was just wondering...I assume Steam checks all files uploaded by developers before we get em...what if the trojan really is embedded in that small 9MB file...ug!...hate to tell iolo to ignore it and then get a trojan...lol

The 9 MB file was a patch to the game. The devs have recently released a number of patches to fix scripting errors and other bugs in the game. As has been said before its a false positive and at the least you should be able to set an execption for Steam and or any game you download. You would probably have to verify game files after making an exception.

I can tell you that we do a check for anything potentially bad before every upload. Also, we use the same computer for the final Steam build. The computer is used ONLY for that and I also let it run a standard virus sweep every weekend just to make sure. And yes, finally, as far as we know, Steam has its own routines for checks that work good and on top of that, the main *.exe is wrapped up in standard Steam DRM, which does another check.

Thank you danijel, I assumed that steps were taken, these malware scriptors are quite savy and creative, you can't be too careful. The game looks so amazing, can't wait to play it. I don't want to start a wave of panic, but I have never had my iolo S.M. stop a download like that before...just alarmed me. Great job on this wonderful and past titles. Keep up the great work.....Gamers for Life! Peace and Respect to all that helped me....so where do I send that piece of "cheesecake"?...lol

Thanks cboath11, you can't be too careful with those savy malware scriptors. By the way, I have the original "Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, O.F: Resistance(really like), and the O.F.: Dragon Rising(after the split). Gamers for Life!...

I have yet to see any malware/virus on steam (except sometimes steam itself feels like a piece of virus/malware when they have screwed an update up ;-) )

I think its both in the developers and steams best interest to make sure there are no virus's whatsoever. As danijel wrote, steam does their own virus checks to the products they have on sale here to make sure as much as the humanly can that there is no virus infected products on steam.
