Troopers and boarding
Ok..I have been trying to increase the success rate of capturing ships. And I am noticing a large gap in effeceincy of your troopers and the AIs.

Without no bonuses and the starting ship I sometimes was able to capture a 5 crew ship with one teleport. I hired an officer that increased troop strength by 10% and another officer that increased the teleporter effeciecy. So instead of 9 being sent I send 11. I am now haveing to send them twice for the same size ship.

Also when I added one level to the Field tactics or +5% trooper strength. Bringing me up to +15% total troop strength. It seems to be even worse. I sent 58 troopers onto a 20 crew cruiser. Lost them all and just 2 more would have finished the capture since it was almost all yellow.

well, you have to damage thie enemy ship before. More hull damages mean more succsess for your troops. But theres an another issue:
Once you started the invanding and after that you outragend your teleport range, you can still send troops to the enemy ship. I teleport my troops to a flying ship about a distance of 1000..(m? klicks?) .

No, what I was getting at is my troops went down in effectivness after I increased their Strength and the number per teleport I sent.

Meaning they got worse when I try to make them better.
Sorry that I missed the point. Sounds really like a problem

As SuperSchokoKeks mentioned, the effectiveness of your troops is directly related to the hull damage level of the enemy's ship, in other words the less the enemy's hull is damaged the more effective their troops are against yours. However we will still investigate the boarding mechanics and do some tweaks ;) Thanks for the info :)

I have tried some boarding operations myself and have come to think that the enemy threat rating (linked to the difference between the character's and the enemies level) is a factor in boarding aswell. Is that correct?
Might there even be a hidden bonus for boarding with certain ships, like the philadelphia Frigate?

Also having 11 troopers holding a cruiser after the enemy troops have been disintegrated, should be enough to fully capture the ship, those internal defences of the ships really cost way too much men, after finishing of the enemy troopers.

To answer you question Don, currently the factors that influence boarding are: hull integrity, ship class, troop number and a series of micro events.

There are currently no hidden bonuses for boarding, however you do have perks (Field commander) and officers at your disposal that influence boarding.

Regarding the internal defenses of enemy ships and trooper numbers, we still have to balance everything out. This will also be influenced by the selected game difficulty setting.

Hope this answers your questions :)

In my case the Increase I was suppose to get through perks and officers seemed to not work. In fact seemed to have given the other ship the bonus.

:O That would be strange... Boarding mechanic will undergo changes/tweaks/balancing so I'm positive we'll get to the bottom of the issues plaguing it. Thanks!
