I killed dreadnaughts and battleships in my starter gunboat. 2 reaper II railguns, heavy weapon blazar. Just cruise in front of them at max range of your weapons and steer change your direction all the time. It takes a ton of time to do it alone. It is quicker to lure them to a friendly station and gang up on them.

My problem is that in anything bigger then a gunboat/corvette i get killed. My weapons can't touch a small gunboat. Plasma weapons are pointless missing all the time. Railguns miss all the time when turning around to evade fire. Without evading my shields would explode in seconds. The enemy fire seems to home in on my bigger ships. They are useless bullet magnets. It is just no fun to finally get a bigger ship to be gang.raPed by anything that spawns in the game. I would not want to grind 24 mill for a battleship only to see it blown to peaces by a swarm of corvettes or gunboats.

All my "successfull" battles were with the help of friendly ships. Or by using a ton of auxiliary gear.

Has anyone tips how to fight in corvette class+ ships? I loose interest pretty quick with this kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that the game is throwing at me. Every spawn is a pack of my class plus 2 or 3 smaller vessels. Or a battleship, or two battleships. I am playing on easy. But it is not easy at all. Difficulty seems to be pretty messed up.

Have a nice day
That's the clinical diagnosis of L2P. So in a small and swift ship - you are good to kite and use the magnificent genius tactic of "Just cruise in front of them at max range of your weapons and steer change your direction all the time. It takes a ton of time to do it alone. It is quicker to lure them to a friendly station and gang up on them." High five. But when you take a big ship - suddenly things have to die at your whim. Suddenly you must be impervious to damage, against all odds! And when this doesn't happen... "game broke, gg".

Tell you what - try the reverse:
Take your gunship and go close range, flying between enemy ships, expecting to be very manoueverable. Get blown to hell.
Take you heavy ship and start kiting, timing your PTE and barrage, modding weapons if not for sustained fire, then for quick bursts of as much damage as possible before you PTE away. Suddenly... you are alive and well, enemy dies.

You know what you "normally" should realize? That gunships are useless and mean nothing. That heavy firepower means everything. That your gameplay means everything. And if you can't play it - don't pretend that kiting in small ship is all good and fun, while dying in a big ship is ugly and wrong. Don't embarrass yourself.

There is an engine enhancement: Hyperstream or something. It reduces PTE time by 50% on third tier. That already is enough to have reasonable PTE on heavy ships. There is "Mark target" option, which allows your FoW to take priority in it's auto-fire. And there is active pause, where you can easily reassign your equipment slots to fit the needs of your situation.
There are your tips.

How is the project going, Captain? May I put your name in the wiki as the one who confirms the rumours or I need to squeeze it in on the KIA page (I hardly found a place for my name lately :-D)

Not sure about gunship vs dreadnaught, but I clearly had frigate vs 3 dreadnaughts and 1 carrier battle. No one else around. Looted at least 2 of them. The only problem was is that battle takes much time and space, so I probably lost some of them.

.....

Hello, thank you for your answer, no i do not ask for changing of game mechanics. I asked for tips. I am not a fan of rebalancing a game ala blizzard. In a small vessel i feel like being in charge of my vessel. In a big one you say you have to rely on autofire. Okay that is the way of big ships. You have to delegate tasks to your crew, or you are overwhelmed with 16 turrets on each side.

I have to learn to handle the bigger ship. On second thought my first bigger ship was the wolverine. That ship statistically is more gunboat class then corvette. Perhaps my bad combat performance is partly from the weak shields and awkward turret arcs of the wolverine. Different playstyle then the Taurus.

The only thing i am a little bit frustrated with are the lvl 13 missions where you get 2 dreadnoughts and 3 cruisers as target. That is a little over the top for lvl 13.

Have a nice day.

You may have killed 2 cruisers and a frigate by kiting and shooting from afar, or with support of other ships, because I doubt that you realistically had the firepower on your Taurus to deal thousands of damage(no offense here, but it looks like you are a newbie, so it's unlikely that you specced into one weapon time, used skills and had enough cash for III-tier weapons, proper weapons, and SRB I isn't quite enough to take on anything above corvette)

No heavy weapons used.
No skills used
No items used.
I have some perks.
I used the default gunship, weapons, etc.
Fire at will on (beams).
Ship: Squire

Tactic: Keep rotating the highest shield to their side, that way the damaged shields can recover.

Actually there is even better addition to rotating "tactic". Just keep moving and change directions. They can't hit you 95% of time.

As for low firepower... It just takes longer. Shields have very low recharge rate. While starting weapon Isis is pretty heavy.

When outgunned in a large skirmish it's best to seek cover in point blank range behind large ships (and that's easier to do if you're small) The enemies will need to circle a whole lot longer to get a good firing angle on you. :)

With the current AI's lack of options and decisions (which we'll increase in the very near future) I'm confident experienced captains could do some serious damage with positioning alone.

But when seriously outgunned - like a dozen of ships firing at you - you still can battle, but it is usually not worth the efforts. You'll have uncomfortable battle with no time to loot much, so it is better to leave and find better target.

If Sun Tzu were playing SPG2 he would agree with you :)

I'm atm trying to kill all heroes in the starter ship the taurus...currently score is I've killed 5 now, 2 of the level 70 variant (had help from friendlies though with those 2)..but a lot of fun throwing down gun turrets and mines and then kiting them around in asteriod fields...as long as I dont run into beam weapons or allow myself to get smacked by their heavy weapons..then I should be fine..more than 1 big ship though and i'm screwed...they burn me down so fast it isnt funny

reminds me of space rangers when you try to become #1 by killing all the other rangers. Some crazy guy did it using nothing but missiles and well timed transfactor beacon usage (calls in dominators).

But back on topic, how long does it take you to do that?

Ironically beam weapons are the weakest in the entire game... have HORRIBLE energy use to damage ratio.

I have all the space rangers games. I don't think it's even possible to kill off all the rangers, because just like the pirates, they run when outgunned or damaged a lot.
Not that I've tried. >..> *cough*

They all "respawn" (new ranger with new equipment and exp) but they don't replace the #1. So if you keep killing the next #1 until you are #1....

As for beam guns. I love the beam guns. You never miss and that counts because you WILL do damage as opposed to hopefully do damage. I've had entire minutes of railgun fire miss. It doesn't miss if I let the computer fire though.

Thx for the spell-check, guys (and/or gals). Props for DarknessEyes with the dreadnought! As for the thing about hostile territory; It's absolutely best to try and go for quick raids...in and out...try to isolate a ship for a few sec's...blast away ....run...come back.... rinse and repeat...
