Licenses can be acquired on stations and planets. There's a special button on the left menu, when anchored. What license is available on which station/planet depends on the faction owning the station/planet. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I'm not completely sure on the planets though, now that I think of it. I'll make a check and if they're not available, I'll make sure they are in the next update!

With credits, and you can only buy licenses from the factions you are friendly with.
They are sold at certain stations (not all have them afaik). The ones named something something HQ, should have them(its the HQ of a faction), and others with them are scattered around the map.
There is one station that has most if not all the non pirate licenses, but I'll let you find out which one yourself ;-)

where is the button to buy a licesne? I cant find it anywhere. I flew all the way to Spire (where I heard licenses are available) and cant seem to find where I buy one. FYI i am level 6 in my newb gunship with a lawful alignment.

While were on the topic, is there a place where a lot of ships are on sale? I would love to find a Gunship emporium where I can at least consider other ships. SO far all I find are 2-20 million dollar ships. my 400K wont take me very far with prices like that...

Actually you are right. I went to Spire Station now to check it out on my new game save now and I don't see it either. So it's probably related to reputation.

You need to have higher reputation so that button pops out it seems.

You need to be allied to the faction in order to buy their license.

If you're allied you can't really overlook the new button on the docking screen.
Mind you that not all factions offer licenses, though.

seems that all licenses are sold in that spire station near the lower right corner on the map. bought them because why not and guess i activated the "even more easy mode" ^^

as far as I know Spire Station only sells "lawful" licenses; you'd have to visit Tortuga Bay to buy the "criminal" ones - if you dare...

I bought a license that made me a state trooper and i get 3k for every ship (of a couple diffrent factions) that i destroy.i was around lvl 6 i think when i got it somplace around the starting area.

i probably can't dock there with a standing of +2500? ^^
haven't found tortuga either. just doing storymissions in the belly of the empire ^^

No, +2500 rep is about 5000 too much to land there ;-)

Tortuga is the pirate nest of Cap'n Parrot and you wouldn't want to go there anyway.
(At least not with such a lawfull character...)
