As Chinese people, most of us believe that the version of the TV series "Journey to the West" filmed in 1983 is the closest to the original novel (there is an English-dubbed version). Even though due to the limitations of the era, its special effects, scene costumes, and props seem a bit crude in 2024, it remains the most classic filmed version of "Journey to the West" in our hearts.
Of course, if you are interested in reading the novel, it is recommended that you directly read the translated version of the original "Journey to the West" (if you don't understand Chinese).

it's on YT, but I've watched it like, 10 years ago.

There was also a 2010 version made by a different team, which I haven't seen. Chinese websites in general say 2011 is better, which is why, to this day, I haven't seen the 2010 one.
