Do they still require you to have a post-paid cellphone number to be able to create an account and play? I remember when OW2 launched that was like some giga issue for everyone, until later they decided to lift that up from OW1 existing players, and it was still applying to new players registering to play the game for free for the first time, if that is still a thing... oh boy...

I own a phone but don't pay for the credits in it cause I can just use Whatsapp/Discord/Telegram to talk with people for absolute free.

The difference there was the players were duped into being excited for a Diablo game only to see it was a mobile game. They were basically coping with the audience reception trying to convince them they can play a mobile game.

Because it was already an established game requiring a different account
This is just to put fresh eyes on the game, as theres a small market of players who (for whatever reason) refuse to play anything if its not on Steam exclusively.

I can't imagine being so cheap as to tell my friends and family "Hey, if you want to talk to me, you're going to have to download and make an account on some specific app. No, you can't just text me."
I remember being like 18 and having no money and having to text through gmail or download those crap sms apps. Asking people to borrow their phone to make a call so I could get a ride. Never again, man.

This is why i couldn't play it just to check it out when it came out on Bullshitnet. Apparently the phone number that is associated with and already verified with Blizzard isn't good enough for Overwatch 2.

I love technology, but sometimes it is just annoying or makes things worse. Like this issue here in this thread, or like how NFL games and theme parks are REQUIRING you to use your cellphone and use their stupid app to get your tickets and enter. I have to fiddle with it sometimes for a long time instead of just bringing in a piece of paper and enjoying. The funny thing is it actually backs up the car lines more to enter as people are messing with their phones instead of just showing the ticket. After seeing this I doubt I will mess with trying this game. I was considering it.

It's not like you have to "fiddle" with anything. You just link your number to your bnet account and you never think about it again.

Very few. That's one good thing I have to say about Blizzard is they are pretty good about finding and banning cheaters.
