Lore question: Victor Saltzpyre?
Why is Victor's last name Saltzpyre
What language or origins is that last name?
...or is it just a random last name?

EDIT:
...further point, like the last name "Smith"
"From an English surname meaning "metal worker, blacksmith", derived from Old English smitan "to smite, to hit". It is the most common surname in most of the English-speaking world."

I know back in the day "Salt" was worth more than Gold and I'm curious if his last name is a reference towards that. He uses gun powder and a main ingredient in Gun Powder is Saltpeter which is a type of Salt. I'm curious if it's a reference towards a perfection in a substance?

Definition of spire (or spyre). 1 : a slender tapering blade or stalk (as of grass) 2 : the upper tapering part of something (such as a tree or antler) : pinnacle. 3 a : a tapering roof or analogous pyramidal construction surmounting a tower. b : steeple.

Pyre in German is scheiterhaufen/holzhaufen.

So its just playing on both German and English to form a name that is Victor (which is "conqueror" in Latin) "Salt heap" / "Salt pile".

"Conqueror (of the) salt pile" XD

I thought his name implied that he spew salt whenever his mouth opened.

To add a bit on that.

The Language spoken in the Empire is Reikspiel and since the Empire is the HRE in fantasy, it sounds a lot like German. Many Names especially Settlements and Towns are just German names often twisted to sound alike but with one letter misplaced.

Fits its name as a Witch Hunter. Warhammer is full of such names a good example are the Vons aponatimes, that we hear of in game.

Like I said a common last name is Smith and that's based on a profession, so if Saltzpyre is a reference to the ash pile of heretics, or the making of gun powder, there you go...

LOL oh you were talking to me... yeah, that wasn't the right example.:steamfacepalm: I said it wrong, I was expressing the importance of Salt back in the day, it is what gave us the word "Salary" because everyone needed Salt, not everyone needed Gold. More money was exchanged over Salt than Gold.

A pyre isa place where executions by burning or cremations are taken place. Makes sense for a witch hunter lol. Just look up pyre in Wikipidia, his last name basically means "Salt Pyre" or "Pyre of Salt".
So im from Germany and i dont know if you will read it someday because im since 4 years to late but you cant translate pyre with Scheiterhaufen the real Translation is "Viktor Salzbrand"

i hope it has blessed you when you will read it ^^ ( sry for my english )
