How does it play with only two players?
I have a friend I regularly play with, and we tried other co-op games but most of them had a pretty... "detached" experience for two players.

L4D2 and Sniper Elite Nazi were obviously desgined for 4 players.

So how is the experience for 2 players?

Thanks.

it's very much like L4D, but i guess if you play with Quality of Life mod bots you can totally just play with the 2 of you and enjoy it. otherwise you can make friends, hope for the best from randomers. i guess this game encourages team cohesion a little better than L4D did but you will still be playing with either 2 bots or 2 random players who may or may not want to cooperate. timing your blocks and picking strategic chokepoints to fight at are essential, but when you master these the game plays extremely nicely.

I play with my friend and modded bots all the time, and we do ok. Even cata isnt much of a problem, so 2 players is just fine.

Bots use the gear that the host has assigned for those characters. It's helpful if you can get nice weapons and trinkets for them. Frankly, I usually have more issues on nightmare with players than bots now that I have decent gear.

This is like L4D in the same way that a guitar is like a piano: They're techincally in the same 'family' ('horde game', 'stringed instrument'), but they exist to fill two different niches: Moonlight Sonata is great on guitar, but sounds best on piano. AC/DC songs sound great on piano, but they're not designed for it.

I prefer Vtide with two players, for personal reasons. It is MORE than possible. Certain maps REALLY need at least 2 players, too.

Although I haven't had good experiences with the community here, I will happily admit that they are far superior to the L4D community with regards to 'Skill Level' and 'General Behavioural Tone'.

weak analogy, they're way closer than a guitar and a piano; more like the difference between strumming an electric guitar and plucking a classical acoustic. if you're going to give advice to someone that didn't like L4D2's style of play you should probably make a comparison based on it's similarities and differences.

so firstly similarities:
they both play in fundamentally the same way.
you can have a ranged and a melee weapon.
the AI director functions in fundamentally the same way.
the hordes of enemies spawn and charge at you in fundamentally the same way, including the basic run straight at you and swing that the basic enemies do.
you can push the enemies away.
there is an array of special enemies.
the rat ogre is pretty much just a tank.
you are on a team of 4 players that can be knocked down and revived.
you can pick up consumable items - one healing item, one utility item and one grenade.
the majority of maps are objective-based and require you to travel through them, but also there is a hold-out mode.

and the differences:
Warhammer rather than a 'real-world' setting.
the way in which the special enemies attack is different.
headshots are very effective on the rat ogre, unlike the tank in L4D2.
the focus is slightly more melee-oriented, always starting with a melee and a ranged weapon.
each weapon functions entirely differently; how they fire, how you swing them, how effective they are at blocking, hitting multiple targets, penetrating armor etc etc.
pushing requires you to block with your melee, which also requires stamina, and the amount of stamina you have depends on which melee weapon you are wielding.
you can also dodge to the sides and backwards to further help you avoid taking damage.
the consumables function slightly differently - health kits are the same but there are also healing draughts that simply heal around 60% of your health and can be passed to other players like pills in L4D2, pills/adrenaline are replaced by potions of strength/speed, pipe bombs/molotovs/bile bombs are replaced by bombs/incendiary bombs.

there are probably more subtle similarities and differences but i think this paints a pretty even picture.

Not true. Difference between draught and bandage is that bandage heals 80% of your missing health, but draught heals 75 health out of 150. And due the fact that on cata you have 100 health it will be far more effective there.

yet such subtleties will be lost on a brand new player.

What's the Quality of Life mod? I was under the impression that this game didn't have mods.
Game has mods, but very few since it is rather difficult to mod the game due to no workshop implementation.

Ah, I see. I just saw someone here mention it and was just curious about it. I don't use mods. I like playing the game the way it's made. I guess I'm just a little old-fashioned lol

Best prepare to retire from Vermintide early, then.

I know not a single person with 1k+ hours who does not use mods.

I am the same way, got a Skyrim save with like 500 hours on a single character, and the only mods I got (after ~400 hours someone finally convinced me) are graphics-related. Oblivion probably close to 900 hours, 0 mods. But I can't imagine Vermintide without my QoL modpack anymore, even if I only use a handful of its features.

Feel the same way about VMF. Would have dropped it long long ago, if not for those changes it made to the game.

the thing about the Quality of Life, or Vermintide Mod Framework, is that they offer a lot of features that just make the game a smoother and more enjoyable experience. the QoL one is very strictly only little tweaks, even including a mod that helps you not lose your progress in a level just from getting a momentary disconnection from steam, which is a huge lifesaver sometimes. QoL is strictly trying to not be a cheat mod, it even has a cheater blocker now that prevents you receiving extra free rewards from joining a host's game if they are using cheats to get 7 grimoires or something similarly excessive.

as far as skyrim goes, there are an insane number of amazing mods available that can entirely transform that game into just about anything you want it to be. i played with mods that add hunger, thirst and even hypothermia for well over a year, it became a really neat survival game that way.

I've been gaming for quite a long time and there were no such thing as mods with the Atari or NES systems so mods have never interested me. Since I've been playing on PC (for the last year), I hear a lot about people using mods but I just can't seem to look into it. I play video games because it's fun and helps me relax. It never occurred to me that Vermintide would have mods. I absolutely LOVE Oblivion! Have you ever noticed that people in Cyrodiil are so much nicer than the people of Skryim? Every single person in the city always greeted me with a smile!

What does the QoL mod do anyways?
Both QoL and VMF have too many features to just list in a thread like this, VMF has more because that one's the origin of modding in this game (under an older name), but I use QoL because it has some specific features I really like that aren't in VMF. I know QoL has an extensive list of all the features on the reddit page for it (V14's the most recent), VMF might have the same somewhere?
And totally, I like Oblivion more than Skyrim if I had to pick 1 favourite, and the people are a plus in Oblivion :)
