Parry? Grab attacks? Most of the buttons? Healing? Dodging?
Do most of the buttons just not do anything?

How do you parry? The tutorial said hit X with LS in the direction the attack is coming from and I assume it's when there is the little red flash on the enemy but Raiden just does his light attack and misses. After a million failed attempts I've just taken to running away.

How do you avoid enemies' grab attacks? They just seem to unavoidably chase you around the arena and do massive damage -if- when caught. Shaking LS doesn't do anything.

Is there really no dodge attack in this melee combat game?

Is there no way to heal other than delibarately die and restart with full health?

The Blade Wolf boss blocks every single one of my attacks..... Except the slide tackle. Is that really the only way to beat it?

Is there any way to stop Raiden getting stunned? That seems to be my number one cause of death.

How do I lock on to targets? I get blind sided by even single off-screen enemies because the camera tracks so slowly manually.

Or.... is this just a siht game?

There's move called "Defensive Offense". Costs 3000 BP. By pressing X+A, you'll dodge back. By pressing X+A and LS, you can dodge forward and sideways. Note that forward dodge have some i-frames(invincibility frames), so you can use it right before enemy's attack to completely avoid damage.

There's item called "Repair Nanopaste". If you have some, you can select it by pressing "right" button on D-Pad and select it. After that, your health will be automaticly restored if it comes to 0%. But you can use it manually by pressing "down" on D-Pad. Also, your health and energy restoring by performing Zandatsu.

As for parrying - you need to put LS EXACTLY in the direction of enemy's attack. Sometimes it's hard, but just keep practicing. And parry - it's block right before enemy's attack hits you. So it's ideal block basically. You can perform usual block by just pressing LS + X, and you should press it at the same time. And remember that you can hold block about 3 seconds.

What's BP? Where do I get it? Where do I upgrade? Why do you have to unlock a vital part of melee combat?

Yeah, I don't have any paste and don't know where to get it?

What is Zandatsu?

I just beat the chainsaw wolf boss by slide tackling him to death and circle strafing. Only died a few times because you can't lock on so got blindsided.

Never mind. I'm packing in this siht game.

Are you kidding? I have a feeling that you're playing with closed eyes.

BP - Battle Points. You get it after each battle and by picking-up items. Man, are you blind or something?

You can access Customize Menu by pressing "Select" and selecting "Customize" option.

You'll find nanopastes throughout whole game. They can be found in item boxes and in some hidden places. Also enemies can drop it after their death, but pretty rarely.

Play "Tutorial VR Mission 03" if you don't know what Zandatsu is.

And finally, you CAN lock-on by pressing RB.

Look, you don't know even f*cking basics and already complicating like "omg ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game". Keep practicing, bro.

Yup, looked. I have no nanopastes. Yup, got some BP. Amazing.
RB doesn't seem to do anything. It makes the target symbol appear on the enemy but this doesn't do anything. They keep going off screen constantly.

And the rest of my questions:

Is there any way to stop Raiden getting stunned? That seems to be my number one cause of death.

How do you avoid enemies' grab attacks? They just seem to unavoidably chase you around the arena and do massive damage -if- when caught. Shaking LS doesn't do anything.

Was slide tackling the only way to beat the chainsaw dog?

M8, I beat every Dark Souls game without summoning and System Shock 2 without looking at a guide.

How to stop getting stunned? Simply avoid that kind of attacks, that's all. Or block them, if they're blockable. Remember, if before their attack enemy is glowing in yellow aura - it means this attack is unblockable, so you must dodge it.

How do I avoid grab attacks? Defensive Offense, I told you before. You can avoid every grab attack in this game by dodging sideways.

I may surprise you, but Blade Wolf is the easiest boss so far. You can block/parry ALL of his attacks. All of them. Learn his moveset and practice to parry them. You'll be surprised how fast you can kill him.

Don't even try to fight other bosses without understanding blocking/parrying system. You'll ragequit soon enough :D

you're asking a lot of questions then. Why dont you just take some time and figure it out? It's honestly not hard.

On avoiding grabs, when they emit a yellow light? You can just move to the side or run until you have offensive defense. It's not that important in the game, but useful

The only attacks Blade Wolf should block are the light attacks you perform while ninja running. Your normal standing attacks should all work well.

And yeah, as multiple other people have already told you, you should try to master the parry ASAP. This video goes over everything you need to know:

First of all i can explain you what u asked from the keyboard controls, since i dont use a controller to play this game.
To parry you press the attack button and point the stick to the direction of the oncoming attack, if u want to practice this play on easy mode since it helps you allot and basically the game pretty much parries for you.
Grab attacks cannot be parried but can be dodged. you dodge with the Z button (keyboard) which is also a dodge-attack grab attacks and unblockable attacks are recognizable when the enemy performing them turns to yellow-gold, like they do when they attack you normally which in turn they turn red.
You can heal your life fully by performing zadatsu. If you are not familiar its this that when you go to blade mode and see a red square that you need to hit and the press F? Well thats it.
Dont know why Blade wolf blocks all of your attacks actually..
To avoid getting stunned, parry and dodge.
To lock press E when viewing an enemy.

Try easy mode, it blocks for you. Come back when you're better, maybe.

I'm someone who can beat the hardest boss in the game without even using a single paste. And I felt the same way when I first started, but once you learn the basics, not even a challenge.
