Are the swords in anyway different?

I didn't see a answer for this.
But I am confused. Are they just skins basically?

I find it weird you need to upgrade them when I don't see a difference between the default and Sam's sword.

Mostly asking because I wanna use the wooden sword but curious if it has some effect or just cosmetic

Yes, they have different stats and some have special abilities. Armor breaker, for instance, has a high chance of breaking armor. The Wooden sword is the weakest sword as it can't cut anything, however it won't kill human characters allowing you to complete battles/levels passively (the enemies flee after taking enough damage). There's even an achievement for that.

It'd just be like playing normally except you're weaker and can't cut even in blade mode.

There's the description and stats for every main and sub weapon excluding FOX Blade, because it's basically default HF Blade with overpowered special ability (use it only if you want the game to be stupidly easy even on Revengeance difficulty).

It is the best sword in the game. High damage, high speed, slightly increased range (compared to HF Blade). Other swords have their pros and cons, while Murasama have no cons at all, only pros.

idk, armor breaker with full special ability is also like paying on easy. You can just slice and dice everything after you hit it once or twice.

Imo i love the longHFblade variant because ♥♥♥♥ its sexy and its a lovely mix of range and speed. Albeit not too fast to the point where even i have trouble comboing stuff
