List of errors/bugs/issues and possible fixes (Post them here!)
I'll list em here. Please read and try everything mentioned, including fixes that may not seem to possibly be able to help, you'd be suprised...

If anyone having issues can check their Event Viewer for an "Application Error" it should be at the top of the Windows Logs -> Application right after the crash. This should report what the cause of the crash was. It may be useful for finding a fix -Thanks Septarius!

Useful Info and reccomendations (so far)

Most of the startup issues seem to stem from Telltale's engine and/or issues with processing/graphics. The DirectX update and downloads, as well as removing any extraneous connected devices, and then running it in compatibility for WINDOWS 7 (Try XP SP3 or other versions if that doesnt work) with admin permissions from the steamapps file, with a little fiddling with the settings in the compatibility window, is from what I've seen the best bet from what I have found combing the forum.

For Windows 8 users, I seriously reccomend http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 as it sounds like a good fix in a lot of cases.

And finally, at this point in the Bug solution search, I must recomend RESTARTING your computer, even though it makes no sense, it has solved the problem in at least ONE case.

Errors:(and possible solutions)

-General
  • Unknown/most usual solutions have failed
[/b] This has fixed a lot of peoples issues when there is no definitive error.

  • {?} set launch options to "-sw" Right click the game, go to properties at the bottom, set launch options to "-sw" .without quotations, this makes the game run fine for some, a bit slow but is acceptable once graphics are turned down. This overides desktop alteration and forces windowed mode

  • Black/white/flash crashing Run DirectX setup tool (update DirectX) There are many instance of DirectX diecrepencies and possible errors

  • disable display scaling on high DPI settings (within compatability?)
  • disable visual themes in compatability
  • Place d3dx9_41.dll (google it) in PN2's steam folder ??? Bannable/risky
  • Find the file DINPUT8.DLL online, download it, and put it in your "Poker Night 2" folder: Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/common/Poker Night 2/ Bannable/risky
  • [/list]

    -Install fails

    no fix so far

    "Could not Initialize Direct3D"
    • Update DirectX

    Problems/crashes involving ntdll.dll

    d3dx9_41.dll is missing
MSVCP100.dll is missing on your computer

    Bugs (And possible solutions)
    • -High occurence of "All in"
    • -Crash on card(s) being dealt try Alt +F4 and re-enter, little progress should be lost
    • -{Possible} Pots not dividing properly
    • -Mouse cursor missing The "-sw" launch option may fix this
    • -Clicks not registering, leading to game halting scenarios The "-sw" launch option may fix this ; also try Alt +F4 and re-enter, little progress should be lost

    • Hands initiating even if the player has no money
    • Brock appears spotted in glittering blue dots, like malfunctioning pixels.
    • Max's nose turns black randomly
    • MIsc. Character details not loading (noted on BG characters)
    • Start a new game during the "bug" of Claptrap, the "b-b-b-b-b-b-b-" will stay the whole game.
    • After raising then lowering the money slider and trying to press the bet botton, the font can mess up and the buttons become unclickable. try Alt +F4 and re-enter, little progress should be lost
    • [Omaha] Cards not working at the end of a hand/not reading cards correctly (ex. a straight isn't a straight and the card holder loses) Different rules, not a bug
    • Game not registering a bet, and the game can no longer continue even though player has completed their go try Alt +F4 and re-enter, little progress should be lost
    • Conversations disrupt play/AI does not play at the end of a conversation.
    • {Possible} Lower pair is counted over another higher pair
    • {Possible} More cards than there should be/duplicates within a hand

    Issues
    • -Game Lag No definitive fix
    • -Model inconsistency/"spazzing out"
    • -Characters facial motions and facing direction innapropriate for conversation

    • -Certain resolutions do not work/are not supported Just keep clicking through all the options and tell me if one really isn't there after you know you have seen all of them
    • -High occurence of "All in" Most likely due to more agressive bluffing

    • Freezing inbetween or durring AI hands
    • AI getting high sucess rates against other AI and player
    • Possible Issues with other os than Windows 7 (Win 8, Vista etc.)

AI DIFFICULTY IS MOST LIKELY NOT AN ISSUE!!!

The game ran fine after reverting the compatibility mode check, and indeed removing the text file caused the original problem to occur. So it seems to be a failure for the game to generate this file upon boot that causes this issue (for me anyway).
Hope that helps anyone else out having this issue.

None of these are definitive and they may be lacking information

As we all probably know by now (especially since you are reading this) the game has startup issues, amongst other gamebreaking bugs. I do not gaurantee these fixes working for you, I am just collecting them for everyone's use (and trying them myself since I myself cannot get in).

Hopefully Telltale will patch and optimize this soon so we all can play and have a great game.

This thread hopefully will continue to grow

I hope it gets stickied or something so people can see this when I am not around to update.

Have you gone into your steamapps and found the program and ran it in admin, as well as doing the compatibility edits that are listed above?

when you right click it does not allow you to run in admin? If it does not, you need to find someway to gain acess to administrator priveleges. I do not know how to do so on Vista.

For me, it still doesn't work on Vista when doing this.

Can you elaborate? WHen you click on it does it say it is starting then nothing happens? or does it blackout for a sec and then nothing? First thing to try is removing an extraneous devices from usb ports like a controller or pad or even a phone.

Yeah, most of these fixes are hit or miss it seems, I have tried all of them... none work. My issue is being cut off at loading.

Place d3dx9_41.dll (google it) in PN2's steam folder ??? Bannable
Find the file DINPUT8.DLL online, download it, and put it in your "Poker Night 2" folder: Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/common/Poker Night 2/ Bannable
As mentioned in the source of that suggestion.
Downloading DLL from 3rd partyy sites is just asking to be infected with Malware.

    HOWEVER
Running the DirectX setup tool (from Microsoft) will NOT cause a ban or any malware - it is designed purposefully to address situations such as these and has been especially recommended by TellTale.

Is there any way this thread can be pinned it keeps getting pushed down by all the bug threads and repeated discussions.

I haven't determined if that is actually part of the rules or not but i shall add it.
