Don't understand why people hate this game
I recently started playing and Diablo 4 is the first game in the series for me (I played PoE for a long time) and I don’t understand why there is so much hate. Is it something within the community or is the project really terrible in the endgame?

It's not you.
It's me.
If you're having fun, you don't need someone else's approval for that fun.

There's a lot of answers to your question, there's no one answer. I'll try to keep it simple and focus on Diablo 4.

Blizzard is too greedy, so much so they're going to make all games on Steam cost more.
  • The price is $70, unheard of for PC Games. $70 is a console game price. I believe Sony and several PC stores pushed for $70 games. people paid $70 on console for some games, but not so much on PC. If D4 sits there with a positive review at $70, then Sony may get mad for not being able to charge $70 for PC ports. To me I expect the game to release somewhat near the PS version, that's me. If Blizzard and Sony are charging $70, what's to stop others?
  • The game has dynamic cutscenes where you can see your character, in the past the cutscenes were amazing. Dynamic cutscenes changes a lot
  • The appearance of your character can be changed by buying visual items in game which many people reported is too expensive. The Dynamic cutscenes encourages people to consider changing what they look like.
  • The Dynamic cutscenes will look worse on a lower-end system. One of the best parts of Diablo 1/2 were their cutscenes (below)
  • Diablo 3 added Seasons for free, to give more life to the game after you beat it. D4 requires payment to use Seasons, anywhere from $40-$100/yr depending on how much stuff you want
  • D4 was Announced at BlizzCon 2019, released on June 5, 2023 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, and Microsoft Windows.
  • D4 was Announced on blizzard.com on October 4, 2023, released on Steam October 17, 2023
This is an issue because of Epic Games. Epic paid video game publishers to get timed exclusives, sometimes they were infinite exclusives. Sometimes new games would release to Epic Games and the games weren't allowed to say when or if that game would ever be coming to Steam, people were livid as in some of these cases they saw that game they were waiting years for, be taken from them a few months before release. I heard contracts ranging 3, 6, 12 and 24 months before they came back to Steam. The dates I listed above could spark bad memories in some.

The system requirements are absurd. If you haven't seen Digital Foundry's video on D4, take a look, specifically at what the visible differences are between low, med,hi,ultra; and what type of system is required to play at higher settings:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rl6sFoeOSU

Take a look at the Recommended system requirements listed in the Steam Store page for this game.
RECOMMENDED:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4670K or AMD Ryzen™ 1300X
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970 or Intel® Arc™ A750 or AMD Radeon™ RX 470
Additional Notes: *1080p resolution, medium graphics settings, 60fps, SSD Required

This is how they recommend we play the game. What this means is
and look at how Blizzard wants us playing the game. , note the recommended system requirements is a 10-year old GPU, 970 playing on medium graphics settings, not high, not ultra.

Conclusion. Blizzard is greedy. Why are they only releasing their new game on Steam? Why didn't they plan on releasing on Steam before launch?

People here mostly hate it just because blizzard...

But yeah the game is fine until you get to the endgame. I always get bored when I get to about level 70 with a character.
Now in this new season they increased xp gains so maybe the game could be fun for longer, but I'll see.

Just buy, consume, repeat ad nauseum if you're enjoying yourself. Utility is utility at the end of the day.

Have a good time!

"didnt play previous one" change that and you will understand. Older ones are better outside graphics due being older.

They improved D3 over the years and then released D4 with none of the improvements. In fact it was lacking basic features like overlay map. And the best part is diablo immortal was an asset flip of a mobile game by a chinese company netease they worked with and its still better and has features D4 lacks. They lost against themself and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mobile game reskin with D4.

The answer is very simple , since its your first diablo its clearly why you can't understand the joke that is d4 , if you ever played diablo or diablo 2 you would know.

Hating this game is mainstream now hahaha

First Diablo game, that says it all. The others were better, by a long shot. This one is an unfinished mess, full of greedy microtransactions and time wasting practices to increase monthly player engagement.

Bli$$ard is a bad company, that was once great, but now they are greedy and make unfinished trash games that are overpriced, and in game shops are full of greedy microtransactions. Maybe you are good with all of that, and like getting done dirty, but a lot of folks do not, hence the outrage.

If you suck, make overpriced games that suck, and are just all around generally scummy, this is what happens.

Plus the game is still more or less in beta. This is all a paid beta.

Grats on liking the game, your have low standards. It grinds on you as you play, what you see now at lower levels is more or less what you see at endgame.

its diablo game without diablo in it..

Honestly me neither. Graphics and atmosphere are great, combat is fun, they listen to complains and fix ♥♥♥♥ all the time and new season feels pretty alright so far. Yeah there are paid skins and what not but who really cares, they don't affect game balance in any way. It looks like people hate blizzard because they want to hate it no matter what.

The main game is amazing. The end game is grindy and boring. lvl 1-50 is basically story mode and good, then every level after that gets slower and slower to level with less to do. Then there are "Seasons", which you start a new season with a new character to get some benefits, but it disincentives you from playing campaign again (The only good part), because you MUST finish it to partake in any new season features, which means you skip to end game instantly... And that is terrible. The first season story and missions were tiny. could be finished in an hour (Obviously takes longer, because arbitrary level gating. So you gotta grind grind grind). Grind is boring. Was nightmare dungeons for ages, or helltides. All of which are pretty shallow compared to the campaign. It's just... A mess. I bought ultimate on Battle.net, and never ended up using my free battle pass, because it sucked very badly.

But that campaign. It really is lovely as a single player experience. To play this for multiplayer or endgame though, you are gonna have a bad time. Clearly some great talent on this game. Beautiful and the audio is shockingly good. If you get it, take your time with the campaign, it's special. Though a bit short on overall content though. So many bosses appear and are over and you think "Huh, i thought that would be a bigger deal". It's too easy on first run through. But if you like to collect, there are some meta goals, but they are grindy. Grindy grind grind.

This is why. The other games in the series...MUCH better....the hope was they improved what they'd already done as well as do something new. Neither of which Blizz did.

Lilith character design reminds me of some doll commercial joke a’la original Space Jam when Bugs Bunny was flirtatious towards Lola Bunny.
TeknoBug Oct 19, 2023 @ 5:35am
There are Youtube videos explaining it, even from die hard decades long Diablo vets.

"its my first game in the series" that just explains all
