Basically Cornell's item (boots) helps to defeat him (second phase). So you probably should lower your difficulty to defeat him. And with boots it's easier to defeat him on normal. Also wings helps a lot but they are unlocked later.
Nah you get the boots after when you defeat him.
But if you still haven't learned how to do a synchronized block by the time you're fighting Cornell, then nothing will help you.
Are you serious? The game teaches you how to use explosive daggers the moment you find shadow magic. The hint screen after dying to Cornell even tells you to use them.
No wonder you're having trouble, since you won't even read the tooltips and skill descriptions.

Nope. If I remember right, he's a boss from the DLC.
